Yet more AMP recommendations required
« on: July 08, 2008, 02:24:23 PM »
Hi,
It looks like I'm in a band again soon, but I'm an amp free zone.
My main and most important guitar an 89 Les Paul studio (Ebony fretboard) Rebel Yell's coming soon.
I have a POD v2 which is currently set up for a lovely rich Clean tone then on top of this I use a Blackstar HT-Dual for all overdrive duties as it sounds dynamic and alive unlike the POD (Which i do like but the DUAL Kills it for tone)
At home this goes into my 25watt poweramp (Solidstate studio style) and out through my studio monitors. I must admit I've got a hard fat driven tone which I love through this.

I'm confused by the whole modeled amp with a tubes ala Vox, Line6 etc, do the tubes really do something?

A LOUD 50 or a 100 WATT 12" Combo As our drummer really whacks the kit (So hard that I used to wear an ear plug on my right side when I used to be in another band with him)

Music is classic punk but with great fat modern sounds and melodies.

An atomic..is a valve power amp/cab..adds warmth to pods etc http://www.atomicamps.com/products-112-18.html and pod fits inside so don't need to carry pod and amp..all in one

That looks interesting but it's a fair whack of cash for something I can't try out before i buy (That and the lack of stock on the site)

I'm not bothered about integrating the pod as it's only there at the moment to give me a nice clean amp tone for the dual to kill.

In all honest I would rather spend £400 or less (Up to 500 if the right amp at the right bargain price popped up)

If you want a loud clean amp, for a reasonable price, then you need to look at Fender or HiWatt.  Possibly Laney too?

There's this at Sounds Great:  Fender Red Knob Twin 2x12, 25 watt-100watt switching £499

THe Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and Blues Deluxe combos are well thought of as very loud, reasonably priced clean amps, to run pedals into for overdrive. Both come in at under £500.

If I was in the market for a sub-£500 amp right at the moment I would DEFINATELY be looking into the new Bugera range of amps. I have heard some very, very good reports of them, and they are ridiculously low priced. The pick of the bunch seems to be the 333, which offers 3 channels of 120W tube amplification. From many accounts, they sound excellent too, and seem to be built at least as well as the equivalent priced Fender, Laney, Peavey or Marshall offerings.

I have not played any of them yet, but I intend to.
