that sounded very nice. :)
Thanks, Dave!

:)

quick question, though- when there was the massive boost in overdrive, was that you switching the pedal on, or switching channels on the quickrod?

Sounds alright, would prefer to hear a Gibson type guitar through it to judge better.
Definately has that late 70s character atleast though

That is 100% clean channel on the Splawn. The gain boost is from the Treble Booster.

the G12-65's were still noticeably darker - too dark to get a good 70's rock crunch with, IMO.

I've reflected on this a little bit today, and thought that maybe the G12-65's would be the perfect speakers to tame a 2203/4 circuit with all the bright caps in place.

Sorry to be rude, but the clip sounds EXACTLY like my MG50DFX
No, it doesn't.

See how easy it is to play the you-push-I-push-back game? PDT_008
Sorry I didn't mean to 'push' you :?
I think my ears must be having a weird day. Yesterday I loved my amp, today it sounds absolutely terrible on the same settings, and your god-set-up sounds like an MG? Something must be wrong.

Sorry to be rude, but what is your setup exactly? Or is it the MG?
No Offence and i'm not being funny but i can't actually remember a single clip from you that reaches this kind of tone.

And to TO, I like it as you said before its very FULL sounding and clear. Can't wait to hear the PI tracks with this setup.

Leave the guy alone, tone is subjective - And to be honest, I don't like it that much either.

tone is subjective and i agree with indysmith here, the tone just isn't for me. The bit before the boost sounds like a 5w starter practice amp. then a loud practice amp. And i don't see how indy's clips come into anything?

Glad you're happy with the tone TO, just not to my taste.

I know that tone is subjective, it was just a completely stupid and unnecessary comment that was made with the whole sorry to be rude starting meaning that every intent was to be rude/offensive.

If needs be i shall record a clip of the marshall MG sat behind me and see if it sounds similar.

Anyways this is all beside the point and people should ignore this petty debate and get back to listening to the clip and posting there feedback.

Okay, can we try not to make this thread turn nasty?!

To badger/noodle/whoever else -- you're totally right, beauty is in the ear of the beholder. Not your cup of tea? No worries, thanks for listening anyway. :)

I like it :D  It's too hard to put the tone of a speaker into context from an mp3 (for me anyway), but I thought it was a great tone - especially with the treble booster on.  I bet it sounds great live!

slight divert, but do you think the phil holborne would work well with a marshall 2204 type amp? presumably yes, as its similar to the splawn.
YES. Buy one. It is the most transparent boost I've ever heard. It doesn't have quite the harmonic complexity of the Klon (I'll grudgingly admit that), but is preferable for they type of sound I'm going for.

i'll get one then and if and it sucks i will come to brooklyn swap your splawn for a peavy bandit ;)

Now that sounded superb Ben. Loved the cranked up tone too.

Sounds good to me!  I don't know if it's the speaker, the amp, the booster, the guitar, the pickup or Ben's fingers, but I really like that tight-as-a-gnat's-chuff tone with just a hint of latent bass power lurking in the background.

What wood is that Tele again?

Mahogany - don't ask where it came from.  It was a body I had around that I wasn't using but I can't remember where it came from (other than off of eBay!).
So many pickups, so little time
