Sorry to hear that your grandmother passed away so close to your birthday - it does sort of put a damper on things.  I hope that you are feeling better and ready to take on the world again now, or at least some of the music world.  Age is very relative, I know many people younger than me who are boring couch potatoes, and then a few older than me who want to party every night.  I think it is all in your outlook - and for me that fact that I still think I am 21 in my head!!  Of course having a young girlfriend always helps too  :P

Just like to put forward an alternative take on the ‘kids’ comments by Twinfan and JohnnyMac.
On Saturday I played a half hour set at my son’s wedding reception (drummer, bass and singer from his band – all excellent musicians). Because of the occasion/audience it had to be ‘reception friendly’ numbers e.g. Sweet Home Alabama, All Right Know, Higher Ground etc.etc. Really enjoyed it (especially after my last band experience    :oops:http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=4924.msg61208#msg61208  ) and it seemed to go down very well.
I have been playing a looonnng time (thanks for being so diplomatic Philly about the older forum members  ) but am still as fanatical about guitars now as when I started. Having a son did not mean the end of life as we know it – just the opposite. I had very narrow musical tastes, but thanks to my son I have listened to and benefited from a wide variety of styles.
Kids are not for everyone but if you do have them, like your guitar playing, you only get out what you put in. My wife is a SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) at a local school which basically means she has to deal with kids that have problems. She estimates that with over 95% of kids with problems it can be traced back to the parents. (Many authorities now run “parenting classes” to show parents how to interact with their kids).
Apologies for going off at a tangent – partly down to a very emotional event at the wedding reception which resulted in all the guests (including me) and hotel staff having a tear in their eye (thankfully not due to my playing) - perhaps I will explain in another thread sometime.
Back on subject – yes gwEm, aging can be a real bummer (especially when you get to my age ) but I found the best way to cope was to accept it and very much follow PhilKing’s philosophy of keeping your mind young.
