Need good, yet hard Alt Rock pickups(HSS set)
« on: July 19, 2008, 04:22:18 AM »
Hello all, first post, awesome site, love the players forum.

Anyways, I need a suggestion for which HSS set to get, for my soon to be acquired American Deluxe HSS Stratocaster. I figured posting my musical tastes would help, so

Queens Of The Stone Age
Smashing Pumpkins
Radiohead
Alice In Chains
Black Sabbath
Black Flag
Mastodon
At The Drive In
The Fall Of Troy

I'm not looking for a super high output set, but I'm needing a suggestion on a good set to buy to cover that tonal spectrum.  I want to go from really mellow cleans to really crushing, grainy drive.

from stuff like this

to this

Sorry if this was an information overload, and thanks for any help.

Welcome Doppleganger! Sorry if can not help, but I like your choice of bands. A gentleman might be here to help you soon, also Tim Mills at BKP can help you.

Holydiver or crawler i suspect. Mid to hot output and both work great in Fenders. Trilogies for the neck/bridge would also get you into Billy Corgan territory.
Mississippi Queens, Holydiver.

Ive just ordered a pickgaurd from GuitarGuitar with a Miracle Man(B)/Irish Tour(M)/Slow Hand(N) for my Highway 1 Strat at the start of the week.

Im looking fror a little bit of everything as well, i was gonna go for a EMG 85 tone, but i feel a Alnico Warpig is too much, so i have opted for a MM in the bridge as i want a slightly more smoother tone, whilst keeping a good pit of power. I was wanting a more Vintage Hot, Tim suggested the Irish Tour. and i was looking for a Seymour Duncan Little 59' in the neck, but in a single coil form, almost sounding like a PAF Humbucker, whilst keeping a single coil charicter, Tim suggested the Slow Hand for that.

Id say that a Nailbomb or a Holy Diver would be as good for the humbucker.

With those coming that will increase my BKP count to 4 as i also have a Painkiller in a current axe.
Axes with BKPs:

ESP EC-1000VHB [BKP Painkiller/SD 59']

This is the only bad thing about BKP's:Too hard to choose!

I was going to get an HSS set but I think I might just get them individual. Thanks much guys.

Yeah, I heard someone doing War Pigs with a strat/holydiver through a JCM2000. Gigantic sound.

Yea holydiver would be great for what you are looking for. I might do a clip of an Alice in Chains song soon cos they really can nail cantrell's tone brilliantly.
Riff Raff/Stormy Monday, Holydiver and Mississippi Queen!!!
