Aesthetics... Pups for a Ltd Viper
« on: July 25, 2008, 06:52:02 PM »
I've decided on what I want pup-wise, but can't make my mind up what covers to go for before I send Tim my order. Sad really when you think about it, but I suppose when you've got the option of custom made pups, the temptation is to personalise them is too much to resist! What I'm going for is a Warpig/Mississippi Queen set to drop into an Ltd Viper 400 that has 'black chrome' hardware (which doesn't come out so well in the sh!tty picture below).

My current thoughts are leaning towards a black covered set with no holes, essentially EMG-a-likes. Although I've just thought that a black Mississippi Queen with silver screws would look kinda cool in a baby P90 kind of way. Leaving the pig with no-holes for the Iommi effect...

I think the burned chrome option is out as there's no guarantee that it'd come out as a match to the black chrome and might jar badly. Plain chrome with no holes might look quite good though...

I'm not really wanting any distressed look for this axe. Any other suggestions before I bite the bullet and go for one of the above?

cheers,
John.

I've seen the ESP/LTD black chrome. It looks a bit like smoked chrome. It does look very nice. It would be nice to have covers that would match that hardware.

Did you ask Tim if he can make a black/smoked chrome cover?

Or maybe it's possible to give regular chrome covers a transparant black coat.

Not directly. I've no idea how the black chrome effect is done but it certainly seems like some sort of coating as it's coming off the bridge and tailpiece (in a cool kind of way).

I think it would look good with black covers, but with visible nickel polepieces on both pickups.  And screws rather than allen bolts in the Pig.

my tele fmt has black chrome hardware and I put a set of holy diver pickups in it, with the black covers.  I reckon it looks pretty cool, and would suit your viper down to the ground

nailbomb & stormy monday; holydiver pair; cold sweat pair

I've just ordered a set of Stormy Mondays with plain black covers (with no polepieces) for my matt black Viper :) I think it'll look sweet

It's done!

I bought a set of black chrome pup rings as I really liked the look of Doog's Tele.

Hmmmm, pretty!
