NGD (Strat)
« on: August 14, 2008, 12:07:25 PM »
Well, not really new, got it a couple of weeks ago but haven't been able to get on here for a while now. Anyhow, after much procrastinating and debating with myself since November, i finally got myself a strat. A CIJ 1962 re-issue, I must say it plays amazingly well, much better than any MIM i've played and definately as good as any MIA Standard I've played. The neck feels just right for me, and it is reasonably light compared to my godin freeway classic. I don't really get along with the texas special pickups, but that will be changed at some point . Here are some pics
Anyhow, in the short amount of time i've had it, it's definately become my number one, i love it :)

Oh gorgeous, GORGEOUS... :D

Tis the very guitar that might be next on my list...

I've got a Fiesta Red one already - haven't played it a lot recently due to all the other guitars, but it is my favourite guitar of all time. I didn't mind the Texas Specials, but I put ITs in it eventually.

If I do get a sunburst 62, it's either getting Mother's Milks, or possibly Apaches.

EDIT: Can I ask, if you're in the UK, whereabouts did you get it?

very nice. CIJ (with Fender, anyway) is where it's at for value/bang for buck if you ask me.

:) Lovely guitar by the way!  I'm on the lookout for an MIJ/CIJ Strat, but I want '70s style and they're a bit thin on the ground.  There are loads of '50s/'60s ones though.

I understand that Crafted/Made are quite interchangable and might not signify...

I'm assuming that, because it's got Texas Specials, and because it's "Crafted", that it's one of the non-export, Japanese-market-only ones, these are the beauties... (should be round the £500+ mark if you can find them in this country, mine was £550 just over a year ago)

Yeah, in the uk, got it from here http://www.guitaremporium.co.uk/index.php?f=data_home&a=0, oh and philly http://www.guitaremporium.co.uk/index.php?f=data_fender_japan_new_guitars&a=1 start from the bottom of the page and work your way up, i'm sure there's something there for you . Very good to deal with Malcolm, he's a nice bloke. It is really nice, and i can see what you mean about favourite gutiar of all time andy. The minor difference in Made/Crafted is the dates, MIJ fenders were made from 1982 - 1984, CIJ fenders made any time after 1984. It is a non - export model, all the instructions are in japanese, and the warranty stuff lol . Yeah i'm stuck between the apaches and MM for the pickups, when i'm able to change them lol.

Thanks for that, the ST72 models would do very nicely!  :)

I've seen the site before, but as he doesn't carry everything in stock I wasn't sure how much of a wait there might be for a special order - was yours a stock item?

(I really should sell a guitar or two before I buy anything else! )

Understood - I've read up on Fender Japan history a few times, but I never seem to remember the details!

Thanks 38th, but I'm most definitely looking for a maple neck, more like this one (but ideally with the bullet truss rod - basically I want a Strat like the ones they had in shop windows when I was 15  ) :

But good spot anyway, as it shows that site does get updated occasionally - I'm pretty sure the '71 wasn't on there last time I looked.  :D

yeah, those japanese guitars (not just fender) can be ridiculous with the model names and the details regarding year of manufacture etc., you need a degree in cryptology to decipher a lot of them...
