Laney VC30 power reduction
« on: August 24, 2008, 06:45:24 PM »
Hi,

Is it possible to reduce the power of a VC30 be removing 2 of the EL84's?

Or is there a mod that can reduce the power by removing 2 of the output valves?

Cheers
Tom

Say the tubes are aligned like this from left to right, looking in straight from the back:

You can pull any of these combinations, O will show no tube.

O X O X
X O X O
X O O X
O X X O

Also, make sure to set the impedance switch to 4 ohms when using an 8 ohm load with it.

Mine is currently set to O X O X. I've also done X O X O safely. I've not tried the others although I hear they are safe, but may as well stick with what you know is safe."

do this at your own peril, the amp is cathode baised and the usual 'pulling valves and halfing the impedance setting' applies to fixed biased amps.

I would not advise you to pull EL84s on this amp.
