I agree. Fantastic stuff as always. They really do make the best metal around today.

Yeah lots of people do, I accept that. Like most people here, I listen to many different kinds of music but when it comes to metal, Iced Earth just completely hit the nail on the head for me. Powerful, well-written, heavy, energetic, and beautiful. Sure it's a little cheesy from time to time but I can live with that. I like lyrics that tell a story. I also find that I can put my own meaning into the lyrics sometimes, and being able to "relate" is a huge plus (which is why I don't listen to most other powermetal ;)... much). There's just something about their sound, the riffs, the vocals, the songwriting and arrangements that makes me think "yep, this is exactly what heavy metal is suposed to sound like". You may get that feeling from Opeth, Sikth, Nevermore or Meshuggah and what have ya and I like those bands too, but Iced Earth remains the band that gets me to turn up my stereo the loudest. Megadeth too, but I'm not kean on their recent material.

(and yes "The Glorious Burden" sucked. However, I do consider Iced Earth thoroughly vindicated after Framing Armaggeddon and The Crucible of Man)

It's power metal, the most emotionally vapid music on Earth, of course it's bland  :P

I love the riffage in Iced Earth, Jon Schaffer is machine!
I saw them live (with Lamb of God also) supporting Heaven and Hell at Wembley Arena, one of the best gigs i've ever been to!

I saw them at the same Wembley gig. IE should of got a much longer set, 30 minutes just isn't enough. They were amazing.

Wasn't Tim in Iced Earth? What happened to that?

EDIT: Just found this on Wiki
Quote
Jon Schaffer wrote to Blabbermouth.net that he had to quit the band. "He's had recent employee problems and has now found that his main worker, his right-hand man as it were, is ill with cancer." Mills was replaced in May 2007 by Schaffer's friend Troy Seele.

Despite not being part of the band anymore, Mills' work is still on the band's new album, Framing Armageddon (Something Wicked Part 1). He played guitar on the lead single, "Ten Thousand Strong", and helped co-write the songs "Reflections" and "Infiltrate and Assimilate".

Who's got cancer? :(
