good to see more in the works oli, did we ever warn you this shiteee was addictive!!!. I like the singlecut shape you have gone for but no doubt someone will connect it with something that already exists and call you a plagurist ;) Whtas the bridge, is that a custom made hipshot?? - confused by the lightness of the baseplate. I like hipshot stuff a lot and am wondering if i could get them to do a satggerd 8 sring bridge almost like the split conklin bridge shown before
Oli - Try a 6 string FF when you get chance, its really worth it. I always worry that people see FF/MS as just for extended range guitars when really it makes so much sense for everything and is just as easy to play in standard tuning if the connecting scales are chosen well, it can make a standard tuned guitar with normal stringa sound and play better than its ever has before
I kept my first FF for a reason, mostly because it kicks ass but also because i can pass it to any guitarist that walks trough my door and they all say 'yeah, thats easier than i expected or 'that makes so much sense'. i adimt my first only has a slight fan.. but it still adds so much depth to the bass stings having that little extra string length... i am going to say the words HARP or PIANO and leave my FF/MS love where it stands
Haha yea, it is addictive! :)
The singlecut shape took me forever to get right, i just couldn't seem to get it how i'd like, but it's pretty good at the moment, so i'm happy. The bridge is just a regular Hipshot 8 string, the lighter bit in the middle is just a piece of paper that they put under the saddles to stop the baseplate from being scratched by the height adjustment screws.
I've just finished my written assignment for the 1st year of my degree, and I did it on the advantages of fanned-frets :) It's really got me in the mood, especially after i made some sound samples, and with both guitars (my fanned7, and the jackson 7) having a new set of strings, you can really hear the difference! I think something that would be quite cool, would be to build a 'traditional' looking guitar, but combine the classic Fender and Gibson scales- you could even do it in reverse, so you had fender length on the high strings, and Gibson on the bottom.... but obviously the fan would go the other way, but it'd be quite neat to try :)
I think i'm gonna make the fanned 6 with different woods to the idigbo/maple that i've done before, but i'm not sure exactly what yet.
