It's not a cr@p setup. The amp is a Fender Hot Rod Deville with a Mesa V-Twin for the overdrive. I've let him try my Yamaha with Crawlers. I guess he just doesn't hear it or something or maybe he's afraid of the price tag. Our bassist even backs him up who's thinking his Stingray bass is good enough. (I really don't want to describe how that thing through that amp of his sounds). Both of them are good players though.

I wasnt implying you had a cr@p setup, sorry! Mines pretty similar to yours I think. I think the price tag puts people off but really, its probably the same as or cheaper than EMG's or SD's in this country.

No, it's my mates setup. He has the deville with the V-Twin, I have the Deluxe with the Tube Factor. Pretty similar but the TF sounds more Marshally.

Used SD's are dirt cheap here btw.

I know what you mean about convincing mates.

I have a good friend who plays either his Ibanez or his Strat and has some weird phobia of Les Pauls, he just doesn't like them. I think I'm getting there thoguh, he is liking the Edwards LP.

I'm sure your mate will come round eventually, he'll get his SD's or EMG's or whatever and carry on but one day he'll start listening to your tone and start to like it...

I noticed the SD's are a bit cheaper on Ebay lately (been selling some off, BK fund  8) )
"What frequency are you getting? Is it noise or sweet, sweet music?"

Just enjoy having good tone and keep playing and don't worry about your mates.

Sometimes trying to get others to see the light can feel like wasting your breath. You will do more to impress by having some killer licks (played with awesome tone) than by constantly explaining the differences.

I too hate it when people seem to follow like sheep - one fashion trend after another, but have learned over time to simply be happy in my own choices and enjoy the sweet luxuries I allow myself (which in my case are BKPs , nice amps and guitars that I build for myself....and lots of old music from the late 70s and early 80s)

In their day both Seymour Duncan and EMG worked hard to put out good product and establish a good following, and they put out some fine product.
I have SD and EMG in some of my guitars (as does TIM) and in certain guitars they sound great, but i keep an open mind and try stuff with open ears.

Just like you, I too love the fact that we all have a close working relationship with the guys that are making some great pickups (hats off to Tim, Steve and Ray) and we can chat to them and have a special kind of service that would otherwise be hard to imagine. I think that makes us very fortunate or lucky!

I would like to feel that is how my customers feel about me as well, or will do some day.

Tim's only got EMG's in his Zakk bulls eye les paul I think (no SD's). The rest are ours and origional the Patient nubmber pickups. Im shure he will sorrect me if Im wrong.

No -you are right there Steve
I meant that Tim has owned SDs and liked some of them - older ones I guess...and I do know that he still had EMGs in his Bullseye LP.

My point still stands that these companies worked hard in their heyday to make a product and a buzz amonst the players about their product. And that whilst I LOVE my BKPs with a passion , I try not to simply be partisan but judge them on their merits, and enjoy working with the guys in getting the best possible product to meet my needs or the needs of my customers.

Yeah I understand what you mean, but now it seems SD, EMG etc cant compete with handwound pickups such as BKP, Harmonic Design and other brands I cant think of right now    I guess I'll just let him get whatever he wants then and not bother with any more attempts at convincing him, hes one of those types that wont listen  :P

The problem is that I have to listen to that, IMO, inferior tone. :?

But you're right. I'm the one with the silly grin all the time. :P

haha yeah I know what you mean, multifx running into solid state amps isnt the best combination, especially with stock Epi p'ups IMHO   I think its time to stop bitching about my mates tones now
