Got my Gilmour Relic Strat
« on: September 16, 2008, 08:11:57 PM »

Naahh, kidding, just painted my 80s Tokai Strat (loaded with a set of Apaches) black, so it kinda looks like the genuine article. The paint job is so bad, it's more like a paint chop, so it looks relic ... check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3YezHWDutc

(sorry the vid is a bit dark)

sounded really good.

Been thinking of stripping my first strat. a silver series squier strat and putting apaches in. GAS! Really inspred by the Guitar mag article on replicating Blackie.

I couldnt tell from the vid on the quality of your spray but it looks like a good replica to me.

Have you replaced your amp with the Fractal? How does it compare for bedroom use? is it the best low volume sound you've got so far?

Is it just your amp setting or the Apaches, but the neck pickup sounds like my ideal bridge pickup. So trebley! Nice tone and looks great, can't believe how expensive the Fender version is, yours looks pretty sassy on it's own.

Haha, indeed Philly the thread title worked well it seems :O)

It was a lucky thing because I just put it back together "somehow", put new strings on and it was perfectly set up right away. Even the trem doesn't cause the guitar to go out of tune, which I am pretty surprised about.

Thats Yes and Yes.

The guitar has Fender zero loss potis, so when I turn the tone all the way up it takes the poti out. The neck pickup on its own gave me an amazing sound that sustains forever!

Will do more clips soon, I promise!

Low volume sound?

Clip was one of the loudest I've ever got from You Tube!

Sounded great though!

Looks and sounds spot on.  I can't understand why anyone would pay in excess of £2k for a Gilmour Signature Strat (or any non-vintage Strat for that matter) when you can put one together yourself for a fraction of that price.

Well, it was not very loud in the room. You can still hear the strings of the guitar, which should give an idea of the actual volume in the room. I maximised audio in iMovie which is why it appears "loud" in YT.
