Got a New Laney GS212ie on friday -
http://www.laney.co.uk/show_prod.php?prod=gs212ieWhat a great cab, for the money !! I can't believe that they turn these out for only 150 squid. Being put together in China helps, but even so, it's an impressive cab for the price.
A good sized, well constructed, all plywood, cab with good quality hardware. It has metal handles and metal jack plugs (with plastic securing nuts). The tolexing is OK, not superb, but OK. It'll do for me that's for sure.
The Celestion 70/80's in it are pretty reasonable speakers too. I like them significantly more than G12T-75's anyway. The 70/80's are a bit bright, and don't have an enormous low end, but they do need to break in yet.
I've actually swapped the speakers out now, and have a pair of Scumback H75's in there, which make this a very nice cab indeed. It's still not got quite the depth and richness of my 4x12 (1978 Marshall cab), but it's almost there, and is way more portable for rehearsals and playing in church (where I just can't squeeze my 412 in).
What I really like about this cab, compared to other comparable 2x12's is it's depth. the Laney is 14 inches deep, which is 2" deeper than most other comparable cabs (except the Orange, which is way heavier and more than twice the price). That extra depth gives a noticeably better bass response than the standard 12".
Oh, it looks great sitting on top of my 4x12 too ! I have to say that a 3/4 stack does look much nicer than a half stack (which is pointing it's tone somewhere around your waist anyway.
