Preamps???
« on: September 26, 2008, 01:24:01 AM »
I have a question here for those who are wiser in such things. Ok I have been looking at these larger distortion boxes some of which are Preamps. I then saw the Randall MTS Mr scary preamp for 50 bucks more than the distortion boxes I am pricing.

Question (What is the difference between a Preamp and an actual Amp Head? Is there some sort of Surgery that you can do to add the preamp to your Amp head or is it separate from the amp like a distortion unit ).

If you want to see what I am talking about its there on musicians friend the Mr Scary Preamp is what I was looking at. I am sure there is much better. Anyway I wish some of these guys would make a Distortion pedal as good as those preamps.. Let me know I am lost

That yoke is a module for the Randall head. It can take several preamp modules as "channels" to footswitch between.

Without the head, though, I fear it's next to useless without major surgery to your existing amp, which would be costly, and possibly banjax the existing sound.

The randall module fits into a Randall head or modular preamp (which would then need a separate power amp)

It is a design by Bruce Egnater
Have a look at the randall mts stuff on their site or the egnater site to learn more
