Patrick Eggle Berlin Lefty on the bay what you think
« on: September 26, 2008, 08:46:22 PM »
Hi what you guys think of this:-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Patrick-Eggle-Berlin-Left-rare-early-handmade-model_W0QQitemZ200257442697QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item200257442697&_trkparms=39%3A2%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

It seems quite intresting to me. Dont see many of them as  a lefty. What do you think of the price?

Always liked Eggles.  That seems like a good proce for the year.

I've only ever played on an Eggle once. A The guitarist of a band that covered for us had one. It was nice to play and sounded great. You should try one out (if you can), and see if you like it. My mate hated the one he played, but i like them.

There's a few Eggle owners around here (a Berlin in my case)

The price looks pretty reasionable for the year but if you head off to www.patrickeggleguitars.org as they have the pricing for just about every eBay Eggle sale over the last 4 or 5 years

They probably also have more details on that guitar that. Are listed on the auction

Sorry I havnt posted a proper link but I'm using an iPod to post this

i'm not too well up on the prices, having only been keeping (a very rough) eye on them for about the past 9 months or so. I'd say kilby's about right, if you were really lucky it could go for a bit less, but it sounds pretty reasonable to be honest.

as i said, though, head over to the eggle forum which kilby linked to, they know way more than i do. :)

the other thing to bear in mind is that with the credit crunch, prices might start to fall. if it went for £500 a year ago, it might go for £450, maybe even £400, if you're willing to hold out... obviously that's a risky tactic if you really want one, though.

Hi guys,

I have been pondering quite for a couple of weeks over geting the Patrick Eggle Berlin  advertized on the bay.   After much deliberation ended up geting it for £440.  Time will tell If I have bought a good one.  Will let you all know more when it arrives.

Thanks again to all who contributed advice.

they tend to be very good guitars. you've gotten a guitar that is essentially on a par with the likes of PRS for around the price of an Epiphone.  hope you enjoy it ;)

TBH I have never come across a bad Eggle (though I have met ones that needed a proper setup) though I do wonder why they chose Kent Armstrong pickups as the standard models (for a period)

Definately let us know hat you think of it when it arrives

I've never actually played one, but there certainly seem to be some bargains out there now.  I've said before that I always thought they were overpriced in their heyday - they were cheaper than PRS and high-end Gibsons, but as a domestic product they should have been much cheaper.  I think they might have ultimately been more successful if they'd settled for lower profit margins.

And they made some other odd decisions, like the aforementioned Kent Armstrong pickups - they might be great pickups, but they didn't seem to belong in such upmarket guitars.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
