Got a Miracle Man set in there at the moment. I love everything about mine but we warned, the string spacing is quite narrow, suits my stubby little fingers but something to think about.

Orly? What other guitars have narrow string spacing? I might try and see if they suit me. I've never really taken into account string spacing.

I've never actually played one, but there certainly seem to be some bargains out there now.  I've said before that I always thought they were overpriced in their heyday - they were cheaper than PRS and high-end Gibsons, but as a domestic product they should have been much cheaper.  I think they might have ultimately been more successful if they'd settled for lower profit margins.

And they made some other odd decisions, like the aforementioned Kent Armstrong pickups - they might be great pickups, but they didn't seem to belong in such upmarket guitars.

Indeed they where expensive (and the current owners of the name have not caught on to that.)

The Armstrongs can only be described as shrill, and when those are coupled with ebony fingerboards, maple tops and a small mahogany body, things get a bit too toppy for my tastes.

The duncans in most Eggles are considerably more balanced, and with the 2nd hand pricees a set of decent pickups are a small price to pay.

A guy I was in a band with a few years ago had 1 just like that.

It played well but it had a set of Duncan 59s in it, which I find to be very scooped sounding, so I never liked it's plugged in tone. I'm sure yours would sound alot better :D

What model is it btw?

Cheers for the post guys.  I think its just a box standard berlin.
Apparently its geting shipped today so chances are it will be monday before it arrives.
My minds already started thinking what bare knuckles would I want in the guitar.  Though I may have to sell a bit of kit to fund new pickups (if they are needed).

I like the look of them, not as lairy as a PRS, no AAAAAAAAAAAAAA quilted maple top, which is a big + to me, and a nice body shape.. they look like they'd be quite comfortable.

Will have to have a go on one if I ever see one around.

i agree about the armstrongs kilby and philly, i have them in my new york, and, well, the phrase "spoiling the ship for a ha'p'orth of tar" comes to mind... i mean, if you're willing to mod etc. of course you can switch them, but a lot of people don't want to have to mod a guitar, and that means that all those people would simply avoid the guitar (which can't be good shifting large numbers of them). Don't get me wrong, i'd much prefer the money to go into wood (as eggle did) than pickups, but unfortunately i suspect i'm in the minority, which can't be good for the bottom line...

that's very nice, i was looking at one a bit like that a while back on ebay but it went higher than i wanted to pay (in hindsight, it still went for a decent price :oops: but i wasn't aware of that at the time)

I'll have Dimarzio X2N and some other Dimarzio pup in mine on a temp basis.  Just had an offer accepted on a house though, so don't think I'll be able to afford to change them any time soon.  :(

Hopefully they'll sound alright, but thery're really not what I'm after sound wise (look wrong too).  Going to go for some HB sized P-90's if I can get some money or a trade together for them

Hmmm mines got a nice gentle quilt (reminds me a bit of Felines Green LP). The nice thing is they look real nice and don't require any fancy tops to do so.

THey are real comfortable and definately need to be tried (I'd like an all mahogany one with a set of crawlers in)

I had an LA for a while(strat with fancytop), it was great-at the time I really didn't apreciate how great.

Hi all,

As you all now I finally purchased the patrick eggle berlin.  It arrived last week  but with spending week away working in Swansea did not get to try it until the weekend.  First inpression is this is one im going to be keeping this one its very nice.  The pickups are seymour duncans Pearly gates bridge, alco II neck.  The bridge I quite like though feel harmonics are a little lacking. The neck pickup does not wow me at all. At some point in the future im sure they will be a pickup upgrade but for now I just need to give it some play.
