New Blackstar Amps
« on: October 01, 2008, 09:14:52 PM »
Was in new Guitarist magazine, the HT-5 is a 5 watt footswitchable 2 channel valve amp. More or less similar to the HT-Dual. It has one ECC83 preamp and one 12BH7 valve.

There will be a mini stack at £349 (head and 2 mini 1x10 cabs) and a 1x10 Combo with a celestion speaker (doesn't say what one) at £249.

I hope its cr@p! (Just bought a Tiny Terror head 2 weeks ago).

Having seen the Black Star amps in person, I can say that the build quality is rather shabby compared to most amp manufacturers. The tolex looked not well-done at all.

Can't say i've ever played one. I've always felt like i was being cheeky asking to play on the 1000 quid amp and then not buying it.

A couple of lads over at the "Dean guitar forum" ranked on the quality of the Black Star pretty relentlessly and did not speak highly of them at all. I  would agree that on paper they appear as they would be a great deal. However, I will stay with the devil I know.

Koch Studiotone -       9/10
Peavey Royal 8 w/Tone Tubby ceramic  hempcone speaker - 9.5/10

As much as I have been tempted in buying Blackstar or Orange, etc. amps I'm increasing annoyed that everyone is trying to pretty cram what you can into a shoebox.

May not be totally relevant, but I just had to comment.
"Would you like some lemon oil?"
"Oh, no thanks, I don't eat fruit."

i wish marshall would do a 5w JVM or Vintage Modern, cos i really like the 50w ones i demo-ed. id like a lower wattage version.

i though the finish on the blackstar amps i looked at was pretty good so i was interested in this blackstar before i heard the HT-Dual connection. i got bored of my ht dual very quickly. its not very versatile at all. the ISF thing was very overhyped.

I really like the terror! It's a very nice wee amp. Personally I don't need a big amp, although the TT can get pretty loud.
