yeah, it should be .009 and 0.011 ;)

0.09 and 0.11 would be what you would use as the low E string on a bass

Held the pick between my thumb and middle finger. It literally took me years to stop that.

Well I was 19 when I started playing and I had books and the internet to guide me so I tried to do everything the "right" way.  One thing that I still do that's silly is whenever I play a fast passage I tend to do it legato where most people would alternate pick.  For some strange reason I just cannot bring myself to practice alternate picking....huge hinderance.

I used to use the serrated edge of Sharkfin picks for rhythm playing - not the easiest route to precise thrash metal palm muted riffing :)

I'm still learning. Aren't you?

I never learned to play lead untill two years ago.

I scooped mids, used way too much overdrive (Metal Zone) and got a pointy guitar with a Floyd Rose.

Buying loads of expensive equipment with the belief that it would make me play really well. Now that was pretty silly - this still happens from time to time.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Tried to learn 'My Plauge' by Slipknot on a £30 classical guitar from Argos after two weeks of playing the guitar. I think i got Mick Thompson's and James Root's tone spot on if i do say so myself :D

I used to curl my pinky on my picking hand under the strings while playing fast rhythms, sometimes it still happens but i notice and change it.

I think my biggest mistake was trying to string up a guitar witha  floyd with the balls still on (first time ever restringing a guitar) i kept trying for about 10 mins then looked up on the internet how to do it.

Another thing i used to do that was bad was take tone advice from people on the metallica forum.... actually that is probably my worst mistake.

Perhaps. I'm more Transit Van than Van Halen, though.

Yeah, I'm still guilty of that.

I still always manage to drop the pic in the soundhole of an acoustic too.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.
