I preferred the look of the tortioseshell scratchplate, the white doesn't have enough contrast imo.

Really nice looking guitar :D

I like both the tortoise-shell and the parchment look.

I agree the pics make the tort more striking, but I'm not sure I'd want to be playing one myself... (I have been toying with the idea on and off)

I know what you mean about the 3-ply though, makes all the difference in the flesh. To the extent that, if I had a 50s re-issue, I'd have to replace the guard!! (Of course, someone sat in the audience probably can't see the difference, but who cares?)

I hate those one-ply '50s scratchplates, they're like bits of shiny warpy (is that a word?) paper.  Did you see the review of the Squier Classic Vibe guitars in this month's Guitarist?  They moaned about the thick bevelled single-ply scratchplate on the '50s Strat, but I think it's a very sensible improvement.

If I had a '50s Strat I'd whack a gold anodised scratchplate on it pronto (and I have just such a plate on hand in case of emergencies).

Prefer the white scratchplate myself!
I think I hate being indecisive.

Excellent first post, I'm looking to replace the p/ups in my MIM 50's strat and you've given me food-for-thought.

I'm in exactly the same boat with exactly the same axe. I just have no idea what I'm going to go for in it at all, so I'm currently trawling all the Strat threads for ideas!

Welcome to the forum!

Personally, a loath tortoise plates, so i think that made a vast improvement.

If slowhands are that good, i might consider them in the upcoming warmoth project.
