Metal up your ass.
I see a rainbow rising
Look there on the horizon
And I'm coming home

how about Neil Young's immortal "its better to burn out than to fade away" ???

or, Nige's "this one goes to eleven"

or, any Chuck Norris quote (e.g. "Chuck Norris doesn't read books, he stares them down until he gets the information he wants")

or, one of the stupidest things to be uttered from a pair of lips by a work colleague... "theres no such thing as a tuna fish, it comes from dolphins and I won't eat it"

theres a winner!

keep the topic going, but in case anyone is wondering, on my design i've finalized what i'm putting on it: 'blessed are you' will remain at the top, while 'in fear lies regret' will be at the bottom. the first is an iced earth song/ part of the hail mary, the latter is a phrase that i made up and has meaning to me.

I could imagine Yoda saying that  - "in fear lies regret" (is that a good or bad thing?)  :?

to me (which is what matters), its neither a good thing nor a bad thing. its a reminder to me to not be afraid of things (or doing things). whenever you have the opportunity to do something, but you back down out of fear, you usually end up regretting or thinking of what could've been. and so, 'in fear lies regret'. whether that technically makes sense or not, i'm not too sure if i care. i know what it means to me so its a good reminder.

if the quote isnt something that has hit you as really cool and meaningful then i would think twice about getting it tattoed on you.  anyway, whats the rest of the tattoo like... or will it just be a random quote for some fancy writing?

well, here is just one of my various designs right now, but they all have the same basic idea- guitar with a cross (i'm no artist): http://i33.tinypic.com/2i0c9dk.jpg

but i do completely agree with what you're saying... i'm not getting this until i'm positive i've got exactly what i want. what i've got written on there now though, you can never go wrong with that, good bible/prayer verse, plus a kickass iced earth song.

keep the quotes coming, there were some very good/ funny ones in here.

How old are you now?  I am sure you sort of grasp the "don't do it until you know you want it" aspect, but believe me in two years you might reevaluate what everything means to you, and then this tattoo may be less than desirable.  When i was 15 i was sure i wanted a massive tattoo on my shoulder of the Altars of Madness album cover (the faces), and it would rap around from where it my arm connects to my torso down to my elbow.  I was so fvcking sure i wanted it, i thought it would be totally baddass, and i had personalized a meaning for it.  A year later i pretty much trashed the idea, and came up with another one, something that i would design myself.  Again, trashed, now i have an idea of what i might want on my back (of course, personally designed, i wouldn't settle for anything less), but who knows 1) when i will have money to facilitate the project 2) if in another 10-14 months i will be sure i want it (i am not even sure i want it now) 3) if the actual meaning and intention for doing will change, or completely die off.

Nonetheless, this quote in itself "what i've got written on there now though, you can never go wrong with that, good bible/prayer verse, plus a kickass iced earth song" suggests to me a less than certain prospect in your mind.  Two things about that too.  First of all, writing verse on your body is a lot more dangerous than a picture.  That verse can be completely devoid of meaning down the line.  Aside from the fact that i think people with bible verses and other such ecclesiastical tattoos are tools (my personal opinion), a bible verse is so fvcking loaded, that to want ONE THING written, in verse, on you for the rest of your life seems like risky business.  Maybe it has a personal meaning to you now (not that it wouldn't necessarily in the future), but down the road you will wish you put on some heavier or lighter meaning on your body instead.  The other thing is that song lyrics are, to me, even more problematic.  I don't know what "blessed are you" means to you, but it suggests to the reader an outward implication.  Two, a song lyric from any one band means that you know you will never stray from this band as long as you live, its music is your life's music (at least for me).  In your words "a kickass iced earth song" is such a premature assessment (at least to me) of what you want to put on your body.  Truly, i don't care what you do, but i am just trying to play devil's advocate here, maybe give you some perspective other people, thus far, haven't.

If you KNOW it is what you want, i would suggest this.  Wait a year; think about it; read some shite; play some music: listen to some music; and see where you stand then.  If the burning passion to have this thing done is burning more than ever, wait another 6 months, then reassess the situation.  If it has still intensified, go for it with all your heart.  This is what i would do personally, but you can take it or leave it.  It just seems like your idea for body art may need more assessment given your comments, but considering that this is the computer, i can't see your face, hear your voice and really comprehend the level of dedication you have to this idea.  If i could, i would still probably suggest the same thing.  So, again, take it or leave it.

well, opprobrium, i do completely respect everything you have just said. i tend to speak very immaturely when i am excited about an idea. i in fact was wondering who you were quoting in your post, and then i went back and realized i wrote that...
the thing is, i've been contemplating the idea of a tattoo for nearly two years now (i'm 18 by the way). i never thought about it too much, but i kept thinking i wanted one, just couldn't quite think of what. the reason i was so excited about my recent design was because i finally thought of something i knew i wanted. i know this because after thinking for so long, it was the first thing i knew i wanted. as far as the 'blessed are you', that was the first idea that came to me for a tattoo. sure, i wasn't positive about it, but can you ever be completely sure about anything? the fact that its also an iced earth song is about 90% irrelevant to me, but it is nice to have that second meaning. if i ever stop liking that song or iced earth, who cares, thats not the real meaning. as far as the quote i have at the bottom 'in fear lies regret'... well, the whole time i've been thinking about a tattoo, i knew the exact meaning i wanted, i just couldn't think of words that expressed it. i kept trying to find cool song lyrics that portrayed it. then i thought of just using my own words and came up with that. i've been a very shy kid throughout most of my life so far, and haven't done much. i regret all of high school. these words remind me of that, and i can't be afraid. i need, and want, to change that. not only that, but just the tattoo in general, kind of symbolizes a new beginning for me.

now, again, i can say all that, but will i still feel the exact same way in a couple months, or years? i can't be 100%, but i believe i will. and now, i don't have a choice. i got the tattoo last thursday. am i happy with my decision? absolutely.
