Hey guys.

Just thought I'd show a few quick photos of a guitar I picked up today:

You can't really see it in the headstock pic but all it says is 'Patrick Eggle Guitar Builder'.

From what I can tell it's an Eggle Climaxe, but there may have been a few different versions so this is a guess!

The only bits of info I can find on this guitar are here:

http://patrickeggleguitars.org/pg/climaxe1.jpg
http://patrickeggleguitars.org/pg/climaxe2.jpg
http://patrickeggleguitars.org/pg/climaxe3.jpg

The guitar needs a complete setup and a good clean down (some of the frets are slightly rusty!), but for what I got it for I think it was a bit of a steal.

I can't really give too much of an opinion on it at the minute as the strings are dead as anything, but I'm mainly fishing for info on it at the moment. So hopefully an Eggle expert will chime in soon!

Thanks.

Thanks for the post :)

The only other Eggle I've ever played was a natural coloured Berlin with Duncans in it. That had a Wilkinson style trem on it if I remember right.

I believe so.

It was made at a time either when Eggle was trading under the name of Climaxe Guitars, or it was a very early model from when he just started up as P.E. Guitars, used as a Fore runner to the Berlin.

There's a story around that Paul Reed Smith approached Eggle at a Music Show and asked him to redesign the body and headstock shapes as he felt they were too close to his own designs. This may be why the Berlin looks different?

I dunno how much of what I just said is true, but that's about as much info as I've been able to dig up so far :)

I believe he produced a few of the early ones while he was still at college.

All the early ones I have seen are either hard tails or have the wilkinson trem that can be locked by letting go of the arm

Itls a lovely looking piece of wood and I prefer the headstock to the later design
Goodbye London !

Thanks for the posts guys.

I've emailled Patrick through his new website about this guitar, so now I'll wait and see if he replies :)

I found 1 review of this guitar on HC which said it was mahogany with a walnut cap, and 1 in a scanned magazine article that said it was ash with a anegree (??) cap on it.

thats would have been my guess, definately ash anyway

at first i just thought the top was flamed maple but thats because of the sunburst... looking closer it looks just like nigerian satinwood/movingui.  but anegree is similar as well.. not sure about that one
