Vol / Tone knobs and pup switches

Ello all, probably an obvious question but advice appreciated!

As posted elsewhere I am building a guitar body from mahogany, and chucking the Nailbombs from my bronze series Mockingbird in it. I am probably also going to use the other parts of the electrics from the 'Bird too, thing is, bnecause it's a Bronze series it's probably got the cheapest of cheap parts. Would upgrading the tone / vol parts and pup switch yield better overall sound quality? I've read here and other places that people tend to upgrade every last piece of hardware to get the very best out of their axes.

If upgrading is a good idea, can anyone point me in the direction of good makes / models etc. I just want a basic 3-way switch and basic tone / vol as I'm not an electrics wizard (unintended stoner pun, heh).

Also, apart from electrics, is there anything else I can upgrade hardware wise to increase the quality of sound?

Easy things to upgarde other than electronics are the nut and sadlles/bridge.

As far as electrics go then there are a couple of other things to consider.  One of these is whether you want to retain the original knobs as different pots have different shafts.  If you have the (cheeper) Alpha pots with the splined shaft then the knobs wont fit CTS pots as they generally have a fatter shaft with a slot in.

Another thiing to consider is teh size of the actual pot itself.  CTS pots (which are often considered to be at the higher end) are generally bigger and they wont fit inside some cavities that have been routed for smaller pots (I had trouble putting CTS pots in my firebird as the cavity only just fitted them in.

Although saying all that, you'd be amazed at what cleaning can achieve  :D

Ah ok, cheers TM for the heads up on the size issue. Hoping my electrics cavity is going to be a fair size as I hate working on stuff that you can't reach easily, heh.
