Blackstar 5w amp HT5 demo in Guitarist Mag
« on: October 25, 2008, 08:21:30 PM »
Once again im disappointed by the demo in the mag.

The demo is a track which fails to show the range of sounds on tap. It would have been better to have smaller clips showing: ranges of sounds from the controls and as a head + speaker out emulators, as a combo and as the stack.

I have no idea what it really sounds like and was so looking forward to hearing this amp.

No doubt Blackstar will fail to produce clips of it as they did with their artisan amps (except on youtube recently which are poor) which is shocking considering the reviews they got and its the sound clips which sell the amps.

the stats of the amp are too good to be true so will try one as soon as they are in the shop!!

it's interesting to see that Blackstar 5w head using a 12BH7 as the output driver - I'm currently wiring up that very same valve in one of my amps, only running class A single ended for around 2w.

I'll do my best to record a clip to give an idea of how it sounds.  It won't be the exact same setup as the Blackstar since they must be running it either push-pull class AB or (most likely) self-split to get 5w.

It's running AB push-pull HTH, says so in the mag.

There's a demo night this week for the Blackstar HT5 at Sounds Great if anyone local is interested....

Yeah I think that Jamie Humphries is doing it in a hotel just next to the shop

I'm interested in this amp, and it does sound too good to be true. It's only like.. £100. I hope it coughs out a metal tone or something.

It's actually £210 on thomann.de Jonny :P I saw that video on youtube and it sounds ok but its hard to tell when hes running though a 1x10 and a cam mic. I want to have a go on one through a good cab or my own cab :)
