To try to explain the acronym, it is a new old guitar day!  I recently got a 1982 BC Rich Mockingbird, which is a guitar that I have wanted for quite a while.  It came with DiMarzio Super Distortion & PAF's, but I am not a DiMarzio fan, so I spoke with Tim and it now has a set of double cream Cold Sweats.  It is really nice to play and is much lighter than I was expecting (about the same as an SG).  It has the whole set of 80's switching (series/parallel for each pickup, phase reverse for the pair, 6 way preamp tone, boost switch, pickup selector, master volume, master tone and boost volume).  With the Cold Sweats you can get some incredible tones from it, all the way from almost a tele sound to all out destruction!

The heel is very like my John Birch and WezV SG, giving total access to the neck and no feel of a joint at all.

Ohhhh, that's nice.  Looking at the photo's it looks like a through-neck.  Which would explain why you don't feel a neck join.

No, the switches are part of the old-school BC Rich charm  :) .  I'd probably disconnect nearly all of them if I owned one, though.

Philly - you might be more of a magpie than me - you have guitar player magazine from 1982!  I thought I was a hoarder but I think my 1980's magazines are gone - though at my parents there might be a set of late 60's early 70's Railway Modeller magazines!

Once you get used to the switches they are not so bad.  The good news is that for standard playing, all the micro switches are down (which as anyone who has been to the USA knows is the confusing way that they are off!).  The tone switch is not something you need to use much, so you are left with a pickup selector, master volume and tone (which are the 2 outside knobs).  It really was set up to be versatile but playable. 

Jon - you know I wanted one of these for a while!  I would really have liked a koa one, but this was a great price and I traded in my 1971 54 Goldtop reissue and got a the price I was after on that (I ended up with a nice cheque from the shop).  Unfortunately they also have a 1979 Eagle with cloud inlays - but it really is a lot of money!

 :oops: I go back to October 1981 - so I remember that issue particularly well, I used to read it cover-to-cover in those days.

Incidentally, on the subject of the switches, Craig Chaquico had bits of tape on the guitar with arrows to show which way each switch should be pointing.   Better safe than sorry!  :lol:
