i can never seem to find a band which wants to play similar stuff to me (they all seem to be either indie, or br00talz, i'd prefer hard rock), and also i'd be a bit wary of what johnny says, that they'd be more concerned with getting pissed all the time than actually playing...

Yep I find that to be the problem, no one seems to be serious about it and if they are, then they're into shite music  :x I'm considering jamming with this br00talz band for a bit though just to get into playing with other musicians again.

I never had a band and only liked to play at home when I was 15-17...

Never played because I'm perfectionist and had (still have in some way) poor self-esteem... But I f****** need to have a band nowadays... but as I'm long time away from playing I've to start practicing a lot before making it... then I'll try to find someone that wants to play blues and 70's rock...

And does it really matter if you're not practising at home?  OK, maybe your sweep-picking technique will suffer, but surely you learn far more useful stuff from playing with other musicians.

Sweep picking?  I can only just pronounce it, let alone do it

Yeah, there was a tongue-in-cheek element to that comment  .  But I didn't want to wind up the shredders by drawing attention to it.

It's not just the drinking Dave, it's the inability to realise that they're in their 40's not there 20's anymore, so its pills and powder too not too mention the constant joints and fags.  You get to the point where not communicating 'cos they're so out of it. Frustration is the theme for most of these rehearsals. The thing is though they can do it when they're reasonably sober! So yes i do get a massive buzz off it. Especially when all the amps are cranked, there is nothing else like it and could get very addicted to it.

I feel for you guys. I've been very lucky and have a really fun time rock'n'roll/hard rock band. Although we've got pissed often enough, our singer never drinks, and we have the luxury of a free practice room where we spent most of today writing a new song "Dynamite" - yes we like making noise and turning it up to 11!  :P
I know this may look like I'm rubbing it in, but I'm in such a good mood atm, and basically wanted to say that there are other people into (well, what I call) decent music although they may be hard to find....
If I didn't have the band though, i doubt I'd put as much work into my guitar playing and sound. It's hard to motivate yourself I find....?

The last time I played in a band I was a young keyboardist, this was at time when Big hair 80's music was ruling the airwaves. I miss the band, and I'm missing alot of the hair too. Oh well! I have my guitars and a dream.

I'm lucky right now, got a band together with 3 of my mates and we have so much momentum it's unbelievable. Been managing to write a song per rehearsal for weeks now, and it's stuff i enjoy playing! All my old riffs seem to fit perfectly, and even the boring stuff i wrote is being used cos the other 3 are bringing so much to the table and turning everything into something special.

Practicing twice a week in one of the roughest areas of Glasgow makes me as happy as a bear with his own hat.

Near Possil, north of the city and is like bandit country at night. Oh and the best part- we're all boring non drinkers. The only vice any of us has is a love for tandoori chicken and ripping the shite out of the singer who has chrons disease.

Not heard of Possil, sounds exiciting though! I went to the Gorbals once. My Gran came from there and wanted to see what it was like but its all high rises now. I had a dodgy Chicken Pakora there, ugh, food poisoning.
