Hi Rob,  :)

I only have the M.Qs, but gather that the Manhattans are  more open and almost acoustic in  tone/presentation. This is helped / determined by the more subtle Alnico III magnets and 'cooler' windings.

By way of contrast, the Mississipi Queens are Alnico V bridge /  Alnico IV neck with a hot winding in both.  They are consequently a much more powerful pickup.  However, if 'tamed'  by picking technique, pickup height and E.Q - the M.Qs are clear, fat and warm - and absolutely purrrr . ( That is how I use mine ).  If let loose and hit hard, they are clear,  ripping, in your face Rockabilly / Rock 'n' Roll heaven.

For Jazz and/ or Ballads, either work well - but I gather the Manhattans are a more sedate and spacious sounding  option.  :)

Regarding the absence of Manahattans from the site, I seem to remember being a 'special' order item - and as such are not advertised in the regular way.

Hi again Rob,  :)

An Juansolo mentioned, the M.Q neck and bridge are perfectly balanced as a set. Bear in mind that I play low volume, clean jazzy blues on them, and so the power can be harnessed purely for it's fat , round, sweet but concise attributes. I found that mine  ( when used as I like ) - are best described as being an assertive Stormy Monday set , but with clearer note definition in the bass strings.

As Juansolo also mentions, there is some folklore on this forum that warpigs ( when used clean ) can be a popular Jazz pickup too. I believe Tim mentioned that he has sold some sets to French Jazz players.

I do still prefer the matched sets though, as when Tim matches a set - he does so perfectly. The bit about Manhattans that beguiles me is the beautiful Art Deco(esqe)  design. Also ( as a player that appreciates the purity of Tim's pickups  ) I would love to hear /feel what they sound like in a Jazz context.

Happy hunting Rob !  :D
