NBD

Well, actually was seriously GASing for a Hamer Artist Korina P90 on the bay, but decided it's time to get a bass, and start learn to play it.

So I went out and got me one of these - An Ibanez BTB670 NF (after trying half the shop's bass lineup):

It's got Bartolinis and a real nice sound to it and sounds extremely fat through the Ampeg SVT/8x10 model in the Axe FX.
Cool, guess I'll have to do some clips soon.

P.S.: Biggest challenge is to learn to NOT vibrate with the fretting hand ...

Nice! :D

What is the spec?

Neck through, walnut/maple sandwich, bartolini pickups and active electronics.
It is pumping man, this SVT model in the Axe is the real deal as far as I can tell.

I wouldn't be Hunter if I wouldn't post a clip of my new bass, here is one, played with a pick (gotta learn the finger picking thing) and through Axe FX (Ampeg SVT and 8x10 model).

Purdy! And very modern looking.

I've actually been using a 60s era Silvertone of late, and really enjoying it:

Now I understand... you don't have the f... ampeg

I like the tone, would only use a little more "dirty", but I don't know nothing about bass and never played with a band, perhaps this could make the band sound too dirty...

So you guys with a bass, do you play with a pick, or use your fingers to hit the notes - bassist like?

Well i started on bass, i do both but fingers once you get used to it is far more natural.

Can't really get groovy and funky with a pick...

I find bass playing to be a whole different experience to guitar playing, it's great :)

I find it much easier to "get the strings moving" with a pick.  On the first bass I had, a Fender Precision Lyte, I could hardly get any sound out of it at all playing fingerstyle - it was as if I couldn't get enough "energy" into the strings to make the body resonate.  I haven't had that problem with any other basses though.

But then I can't play bass any better than I can play guitar.  In fact I'm even worse.  But it does make your fingers stronger, and when you pick up the guitar afterwards it feels really easy to play.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Never played a bass but, when I was roadie of a band and decided to be bass player (short time), I picked the MM of bass player and played 3 notes... he smiled and said: "Hey you're getting the bass out of tune, play it softer"...
