The Sterling is crippling against the Dollar, I wouldn't go for it just yet.

However I'm surprised you haven't seen an uber cheap EC-1000 Dave :o

You need a holiday over to London. Or.. Glasgow.. or.. anywhere out of Northern Ireland.. Yeah, just move actually :P

yeah, pretty much. i generally just buy off the internet. it's bad enough paying inflated prices when it's something you want... when they're asking inflated prices for stuff you don't want (bar the belfast guitar emporium, which has a pretty nice stock), it's just like o_O

And imo, an EC1000 for £700 is an absolute bargain. Good woods, great playing, proper pickups (whether you like them or not), Sperzels, and generally very good fretwork in my experience.

I'd go for it.

i dunno, man, the one i tried had a 3 piece back and neck. not saying it's not good wood, but i'd expect fewer pieces (for the body at least- i'm aware that extra pieces in the neck can be for stability as well as just cheaping out  ) for £700... i know my edwards was a lot less than that and has 1-piece construction for each. that's not really an option now, though, with the pound's current value against the yen... :(

If its worth anything, I'd choose a 3 piece neck over a 1 piece, any day of the week.

Seconded, 3 piece/5 piece necks are the best.

There's some great stuff on this site. Did you see the wine coloured love rock and the black tokai 335?

i've got an EC1000VB and after 3 years of playing i can't say anything less than good about it... i paid it 1050 euros, which is A LOT less than a Les Paul, and quality is generally on par. great guitar.

Wish i could agree with a Les Paul. They just don't sit on my leg properly which I don't understand really if slimmer bodies do.. o_O

The fact that they sit quite a bit further back?

strange... i love my les pauls' "wearability", the only thing i can complain about is the angle the body forms with my arm (IN my arm, to say it all...), but in general i love playing them... anyway slimmer, lighter and contoured EC body is a dream to wear. i prefer 60s Les Paul neck to the thinner ESP one, but it's just my opinion.
the EC1000 is an awesome guitar... i'd like to post some picture but being EMG equipped it would be slightly off-topic... :)

there's a lot more weight at the back, i think. i definitely notice that a lp, while not as bad as, say, a V, isn't the easiest guitar to sit down with, it always feels like it's trying to fall off the back of your leg.

+30(which consequently is how many pounds my Greco LP weighs :P)

I have to rest it on my raised left leg for it to feel at all stable.  I don't play much for this very reason so I may just try selling it.

Whenever I hold a Les Paul and try to play it, my arm can get over but the guitar just starts sliding off my leg.
