Is this a mistake?
« on: December 05, 2008, 08:33:09 PM »
Just looking at this on the dawsons website - they must have made a mistake with their pricing (considering how overpriced they normally are).

http://www.dawsons.co.uk/acatalog/fender_american_vintage_62_telecaster_custom_bound_edge_3_colour_sunburst.html

I would be VERY surprised if this was an American model going for that sort of money. More than likely a 'Crafted in Japan' tele.

I'm expecting Roo to make a comment about £518.71 not being cheap for an American Tele  :)
I think I hate being indecisive.

That can't be right - it even says RRP £587, that's about £300 less than an American Standard.

A real mystery! :?

It looks exactly like the MIJ Tele Custom which you'd expect to be that price.

that is very interesting. as you guys have been saying, it's the right price for the japanese-made one... the american-made ones are more like twice that price.

I guess you could chance it and if it turned out to be MIJ, send it back (no risk- it's their mistake so they shouldn't even be able to hit you for postage!)... not sure if i'd be willing to take that risk though.

EDIT: the '52 one is twice the price on the same site... and i can't find the '62 one on dv247... actually, scratch that, it's £1100.

Great, now you too can look like a **** for less!

What a sorry, sorry waste of money and wood :(
Saw a guy on the underground the other day playing some bluesy stuff on a tele. He really did look like a complete and utter numpty, such a shame because the lad could play.

Just read this bit on the DV247 advert

This is an affordable, very nicely made, Japanese built - Fender reproduction of one of the most wanted Tele's in the Fender range

I do love bound teles with a rosewood neck, shame about the sunburst though.

Well spotted.  That solves that one, then.  :)

yeah, the dv one is the japanese one, alright, but the dawson's one appears to have the description of the USA vintage reissue? it appears to be the pic of the japanese one, though- but the writing is bound to be more important than the pic.

strange. i don't really want to spend £500 on a tele (even if it were a great deal, plus i'm not too fond of sunburst in teles), but if i were, it might be worth the risk. or not. :)

The Dawsons site has the description of the American Vintage, the pic of the Japanese one... and also the PRICE of the Japanese one.

The description should be more important than the pic, but surely they're going to realise the mistake when someone buys one.  Legally(?) they should probably send the US version since that's what they've advertised, but you'd have to drag them through the courts to get it!  I'm sure it's the Japanese guitar you'd end up with.

yeah, probably.

what's most likely to happen (i'd have thought- could be wrong) is that they'll realise their mistake and contact you before they send it.

i don't think you'd have to go to court- you'd be covered by distance-selling regulations etc.
