What do you use in the bridge of your strat?
« on: October 03, 2005, 09:07:52 PM »
Hey Guys,
First post!  I'm brand new to the forum here, but I've seen a few of you over at the SD forum...hope I'll be able to contribute!
I have an EB/MM Silhouette Special (basically a super strat) with a humbucker in the bridge that I'd like to replace with a BK pickup.  What do you like in the bridge of your super strat?

Hi welcome to the forum!

I've got a Miracle Man in the bridge of my Charvel Model 6 plus two Trilogy Suite single coils. They sound brilliant!

Hey Johnny, how are you?

I actually was thinking about a Miracle Man, as I'm a devout lover of ZW's Pride & Glory and Book of Shadows material...I was kind of afraid it'd be too bright though?  I'll be playing through a PODxt/Atomic amp or a JCM 800 w. Keeley SD-1/marshall 1936.  Is it pretty bright in your rig?

No not at all. It's got some serious bottom end as well as cutting through on the high stuff. Twilight Odyssey (Ben) in this forum has one in one of his George Lynch Super Srats too, with an Irish Tour in the neck. You will get a good Zakk tone with one alright.

Check out some of the sound clips. Look for Tim's Miracle Man clip.

I had caught Tim's Miracle Man clip, but my real question was how much the construction of the EB/MM would change the tone (bolt neck, maple board, trem bridge, etc).  Tim sure makes some mean sounding pickups!  Thanks again for the help Johnny.  Do you have any other BK pickups in other guitars?

I think The Miracle man may be too bright with a maple board. What Kind of tone are you looking for?
Crawlers and Nailbombs sound great in strats, they give them the balls that they seem to be missing.

Hey Steve,
I was looking for something Zakk Wylde-ish, from the Pride & Glory era.  If you've seen his pentatonic hardcore video, thats really what I'm looking for.   I know the construction of the guitar, scale, etc will have some effect on it, but thats really my target.

Btw, are BK pickups 4 conductor?  If possible I'd like to be able to split/parallel the bridge 'bucker.

We can supply all of our pickups with 4 conductors, no problem. The Miracle man would be my choice for the tone Zakk has now, Ive just got a feeling it may be too bright in that guitar. Are you looking for versatility, nice cleans etc?

Would the nailbomb or warpig be a little thicker?  Maybe the cold sweat?  I'm not too familiar with the BK pickup family, so if I make an ass out of myself don't mind me ;)  I am looking for a little versatility, but I normally use the bridge only for semi dirty or distorted tones...cleans are kinda secondary on this one...but sometimes I dig having a tapped bucker for distorted tones.

The Nailbomb would give an excellent tone - along the lines of the BKP demo Tim did with my Ibanez. It can get close to the ZW tone, but it's a bit more classic metal, the mids are more aggressive.

Ben (TO) has a Miracle Man in a maple bodied, maple neck SS I think - he's done lots of clips and doesn't sound too bright to me - have a search through the players section.

Oh - and hello!! :P

So many choices, and only 1 axe!

Well, it appears that you're not going to be playing metal; is this correct? If so, the Miracle Man might not be what you want ... it will give any pickup a run for its money, and to my ears, sounds like what the SD Distortion wants to be when it grows up ... tons of growl, sustain for days, very focused sound, will easily overdrive your amp. On clean tones, it is a bit compressed. It will do clean, but prefers distortion.

I have 3 s00per strats, all with different pickups in 'em.

Are you looking for something like a PAF with a hangover? Then I would recommend the VHII; that  pickup has lots of attitude!

I have a Cold Sweat, but haven't installed it yet. :(

Edit: Oh yeah, welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys...

TO:  The most metal I'd be getting would be instrumental rock/prog rock sort of tones...don't need something extreme enough for black metal or the like.  You're right though, I don't need to play pantera on this axe.

And no, I still go by GrooveHT at the SD forum...I've just been away and lurking for a long while.
