No one likes good music! I tried to play some new metal stuff (Killswitch Engage, Unearth etc) with some friends for a while, which is fun for a bit but its really not me and its so boring to play. Its the same pattern all the time. A bit of chugging, some "technical" riffage then the same breakdowns or whatever theyre called then a "nice" bit with singing. So cr@p.

Tried to get my own band together but again I cant find any likeminded people. When I seem to have something, I get to the point of asking to meet up for a jam or whatever and they never email back!

You still based in the Kettering area? If you are wanting to do the classic rock thing I can point you in the direction of a shite hot bass player. He used to play in my old band Burning Warship for a while and he really knows how to walk all over the fretboard. He is currently jamming with my new hardcore project until I find a more suitable bass player but I'm sure you and him would get on like a house on fire.

As for getting bands together, I've always found the best way is to get involved in your local scene. I work at my local venue/pub* and I've been drinking there since I was 15. Since I've been there I've done loads of different projects (mainly live) and been thrown in the deep end (filling in for a band at a local all dayer with me on the only guitar, one bass player, a rapper, drummer and a thermin player - we did some sweet dub and I had to pick it up as I went along 'A minor on the snare!!!', the rapper decided his topic was going to be hobbits)

One thing that is useful Hunter is that with bass, you get to look at a different part of the rhythm. One of the things I would say is that you can often say more by playing less. Also, I used to have to sing and play bass which I find harder to do than sing and play guitar. If you have to do that you kind of have to put your playing side on autopilot. I learned to play the bass line of All My Loving and did the lead vocal too. Really helped when playing guitar-something like Message in a Bottle now is relatively simple for me to play and sing. Like I said earlier, there is much that can be learned from bass that many guitarists could do with knowing. I still consider myself to be a bassist turned guitarist though.

Wow, yeah singin and playing together is a different ballgame again. I have to do the refrain on "God put a smile upon your face" and it's a pretty rocking bass lick (Coldplay's bass lines are awesome by the way) and I am struggling quite a bit with the multitasking there ...

That drives me absolutely mad when that happens.

This happens to me a lot too! The ones that do get in touch with me have been shite in the extreme

I sort of am. I'm at uni now which is in Leicester so I dont want to come home all the time for practices or whatever. Its not that far away but its a hassle getting the train etc. My mate at uni does it every week and it just seems so annoying. I know of sawyers, been to a few of the jam nights but no one I know really goes there; feels awkward going by myself when I know no one there and would be drinking by myself  Wouldnt mind trying to get something here over summer though but for now I'd rather keep it in Leicester.

It's nice to see this is a worldwide problem.  The problem where I live is finding a decent drummer.  There are 4 or 5 of them and they play in all the good bands here with no time for new endeavours.

Well, when you're back come down the jam sometime. You'll know who I am cos I'll be the one who is the most drunk, the loudest and everyone calls me Paddy!
