Pots, switches etc

I have BKP sets in my Ibanez RG550, Gibson Les Paul and Eggle Berlin and they all sound great.

I am relly happy with how they sound but I was wondering if it would be worth while upgrading the other hardware like switches and pots and if so what would be the ones to go for.

I am pretty sure the Gibson stock pots are 300k so I guess the standard 500k pots would make it brighter, which is something it doesn't need to be !!

Common sense is to use CTS pots, they are good quality.

However, there are selected and matched CTS sets available from RS Guitarworks, quite expensive, but some swear by it.

I thought that I liked the sound of my original Gibson 500 pots better before I changed them to CTS, but not sure at all.

If you wanna spend REAL big then get Allessandro, they are like 50 quid each (but it's a bit crazy IMO).

I've change the pots in my SG. I'm don't remember exactly anymore, I think the volume pots were close to 500Kohm and the tone ones to 300Kohm - just as far as I recall they weren't all the same rating.
I ended up with 500Kohm for the MiracleMan in the bridge - which obviously works well - and a 500Kohm and 1MegOhm for the neck pickup (stock model). The neck pickup is soooo much more usable now, I actually like it a lot now and am keeping it. Before I always thought it sounded way boomy and not very articulate.

One thing you should keep in mind that some potentiometer holes in guitar can differ in size. The Gibson ones are larger, the ones on my ESP (probably due to Japan using the metric system) were smaller and some pots wouldn't fit through. Unfortunately it's hard to know how fat they are when you order them.
EDIT: Since you want to modify the GIbson, though you only need some washers if they are thin posts. Make sure you get long ones for a LesPaul.
