Best Live Bands

I would have absolutely killed to see the chili peppers around 1989/90

Willo,  I see you're in Newcastle.  Boy did I miss some great bands at the Newcastle Riverside (500 person venue) at the start of the 90's...

Nirvana - Didn't bother going to see them, was sulking because I'd missed Mud Honey.  
Pearl Jam - Didn't realise they were on.  
Black Crows - Didn't know how good they were until after they'd played
Smashing Pumpkins - Got my dates mixed up and missed them.

The Riverside was a fantastic venue, small, sticky carpets, good PA.  It's now sadly, a dance club.  I played there several times in the mid to late 90's.  My favourite back stage graffiti was the Rolf Harris' Rolf Aroo.  :)

My biggest miss is Jane's Addiction. They played Leeds festival when i went there, but I wasn't a fan at the time. Then when I got into them, they toured the Strays album but the nearest gig was Manchester and I'd literally just moved into my uni digs. So I passed it up, reasoning that there would always be another time.

:D I still remember even now some 26 yrs later !! AC/DC on the "Back in Black" world tour play there 1st gig in the UK [Hammersmith London ]after the death of Bon Scott. [ he died after there last performance at the Hammersmith Odean as it was then ] The atmosphere was electric the crowd were so wired that a full hour & half before the band took to the stage, the Angus chant went up every 2 minutes by the time the band took the stage the crowd were at absolute fever pitch !! The P.A was Deafeningly loud & it still wasn`t enough !! the crowd sang louder than the band for the 1st 3 numbers !!!  :P Utterly insane !! Loved it !!!! :P

Motorhead on the "Ace Of Spades" Tour was a corker
Black Sabbath on the "Heaven & Hell" tour was very disapointing dul very very dull !!  :(
Saxon used to put on a good show as do Rush great band the gigs they did last year were outstanding !  :D
Bruce Sprinstein on the " Born in the USA" tour at Wembly stadium was excellent
Queen on the "Works" tour at Wembley Areana [ the last gigs they ever did inside] was an outstanding gig to
The Most S**T gig has to be Deep Purple on the" House of Blue light" tour was disgracfuly bad as was Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow some 10yrs before.

Boy, did you miss some good bands! :o

I've missed Dire Straits, U2, Satriani, and Van Halen (on their one and only tour of Australia ever). :( I think the only band I'd rather see live than those is the Jimi Hendrix Experience, but I was born too late for that gig.

Rammstein are just awesome live. Unfortunately they don't play Buch Dich anymore, but thats probably because of the number of kids in the audience. Their last album (Reise Reise) only clicked how good it was when they played the tracks live.

Outside of rock music, the best other performance I've seen was a Reggae singer called Luciano. The atmosphere was electric and he came onstage doing backflips across the width of the stage. I haven't seen many Reggae gigs unfortunately. Freddy McGregor was also very good, but then he's one of Reggae's oldest performers now.

I really wish I'd seen Pink Floyd at the Live 8 show, as they sounded so tight. David Gilmour was especially on fine form and it sounded better than the gigs featured on Pulse.

The mAKE uP were the best band I have ever seen live - the singer Ian Svenonious is a real showman and gets the crowd going, they would play an improvised set dipping in and out of songs, building up to a frenzy and taking it down again, on a good night it was like the band and the audience were as one each pushing the other to the limits.
The best one was at the Edinburgh Venue - a small place, rammed... everyone into it and having a good time - Ian was walking on people's hands (like Iggy Pop) and hanging off the ceiling.

They are touring as Weird War now - the gigs are still amazing but don't have the same intensity.

Best live band in the uk has to be Biffy Clyro, the amount of energy from just 3 people is amazing, plus the drummer is astounding and sing backing and even lead on some choruses.

Also saw Alkaline Trio the other day at the Birmingham Academy, they put on a great show, but i was so much more impressed with their support. This lil asian dude came on stage and set up a projector and a screen, soon followed by an acoustic guitar. i instantly thought- wow, this will be random. Turns out the guy is Mike Park and he is freaking amazing. the first half of his set he played along to a dvd thing, as the topic changed he went onto a new song, about 5 or 6 songs were done, just him, no talking (not even a hello at the start) after the show finished he turned to the audience (he was side on at the start, to see the screen i guess) and started playing properly.

Alkaline Trio the other day at the Birmingham Academy, they put on a great show

I thought they took themselves way too seriously. they didn't look like they were having fun when i saw them - they were acting all sinister, with the scary blank faces, and slow stage movement. i want alkaline trio the punk band back! its like they've gone gothemo  :?

not so! everyone look like they really had  blast. matt skiba was moving around, right up to the croud during dan's songs too. plus the drummer is always entertaining to watch  :lol:

Definatly The Cure.  Seen them at the corn exchange (fan only gig) Never will be virtuosos, but music is so intense in front of a small audience. I have several "live" Rush albums and really wanna see them, cos they are the tightest band ever. If only they toured the UK more than once a decade.

I have to side with indysmith on this one.  I saw the trio numerous times and while I love their music, they arent a real high energy band on stage.  I remember when I saw Taking Back Sunday open up years ago for the Trio and thought TBS out shined the trio by far.

fair enough, but they kicked ass last saturday :) and i know what you mean though, they were pretty dull on the metro halloween dvd.
