Gibson price rise

For all those about to go for a Gibson of any kind - in the next week or so it will cost you 10% more as the prices are going up. Something to do with Gordon Brown apparently  :shock:

So I have the decision to make as to whether I go for the 335 I want now or wait until I can comfortably afford it and shell out another £200.

Same with PRS and Fender as well.  Any new USA stock coming over is going to be hit by the fall in the exchange rate  :(

Seriously the collapse in the pound against both the dollar and the Euro is having a bad effect on the guitar trade generally. We are finding that the cost of spares has gone up significantly.

Perhaps we should try manufacturing some things in the UK again! That's a novel idea!

sadly its not that simple, cant speak for bob but most of my suppliers are either in america or getting there stock largely from america.  a company like allparts.uk.com for instance has recently increased anything that comes from allparts USA or Mojo musical supply by 10%

Absolutely. We are having the same problem.

We buy parts from Europe and the US. Virtually no guitar amp parts are made in the UK. We get our custom transformers wound in the UK, but the parts for these will have to come from outside the UK (and M6 EI lams are getting very expensive). We also use a British speaker manufacturer. We use PTFE sheet made in the UK. However all other parts, valves, caps resistors etc are simply not made here.

I suspect most wood for guitars is sourced out side the UK too.

The idea that a low pound helps UK manufacturing because exports are now better priced is weighed against the fact that materials and parts now cost more.

Sadly we just don't make much in the UK anymore. Mind you try getting anyone interested in making anything in the UK is hard.........

Well I might have to bite the bullet - I've found a figured top cherry red 335 for under £1700 which is a bargain

Bollocks bollocks bollocks bollocks!  :x  The only 3 things I have GAS for on the guitar front are a US Deluxe HSS Strat, and Jim Root Tele and a PRS Custom 24. Looks like a no-guitar year for me then... :(

I have to put in a caveat on mine - this was agreed with Mrs R a while back - a Japanese 62 reissue strat in sunburst, if found, and if gorgeous, is likely to be bought on a whim... otherwise, now I'm actually creating stuff with my little lot, I feel quite satisfied with what I've got...

2. Fender Heavy Relic Strat or Tele (and it'd have to be a good one!)
3. Feline Emerald Lion (I can dream, can't I?)
