I'm using the 32 in vista 64. I tried the 64 beta, and VSTs arent well implemented in it - DFH didnt work, and I need that.

You dont have to use the 64 bit version with a 64 bit OS.

the mac version actually crashes less than the windows version.

And the problem with it not saving your presets is a ezdrummer/dfh problem thatwas never fixed for some reason

In my case I do, I have to use ASIO4ALL for my IO because I don't have a hardware interface yet,
and that thing works awesomely on 32bit OS but crashes instantly unless used by a 64bit DAW on XP 64. :(

On the subject of Pro Tools, why is it the industry standard? Its so $%&#ing horrible and awkward to use..

Because the overwhelming majority find it gets better esults than anything else?

I'm very much a novice at recording, but I find that whilst it's a little less intuitive regards MIDI (though that's all about to change, apparently) than some other programmes, it's just as easy for everything else. And every single producer and engineer I know that are actually full time proffessionals swear by it. For whatever reasons.

It's not like all your major league studios run it cause they just haven't tried anything else...there's got to be real reasons in there.

It's because it's called "Pro Tools" so all the pro tools out there think they have to use it.

I havent tried it, but its more than worth noting that protools only works with digidesign hardware. A digi HD rig is good stuff, and when you know your DAW and soundcard are going to get on perfectly and deliver the results, then its an easy package to buy into.

Oh, apogee works too, I think. But they arent designed in conjucntion with the DAW.

Wait until you learn all the keyboard shortcuts and become a Pro Tools ninja. Then you'll know. There's nothing quicker and easier to use once you have some basic know-how. It's not my favourite DAW either but damn it's a fluid workflow once you get the ball rolling.

I guess its just personal preference then (as well as the shortcut knowledge it seems). I just cant be bothered to put the time into it when Reaper does everything but quicker and easier (for me), and doesnt need specific hardware/dongle.

Also, sending work to othe people you need the same DAW so someone HAS to be in significant majority. It used to be Cubase, now its Pro Tools, and it may well change again

Depends on your 'community'.
At Uni most folk use Logic primarily, but most people worth their salt will have more than one of the major DAWs.
