Dont know whats going on
I have various things wired in the line ins of my fireface, and was trying out impulses with my Duncan Twin Tube Mayhem.
The config is a bit crazy:
Guitar -> decimator -> OD (Off) -> 4 way splitter
Splitter to:
RME High Z DI
Twin tube Mayhem (valve distortion/pre)
JD10 (SS distortion/Pre) –> Tuner out to PODXT -> Pod to RME
One floating cable plugged into an in on the RME, but not into any device (was Vox XT, but unplugged to play normally)
One floating out from splitter (that was to the vox)
Now, the problem:
With everything but the RME, Twin Tube and decimator off, I decide to muck about with some impulses. I make a nothing-take, some random pseudo riff to play with. The noise at the start is noticeable, but well within expectations. The noise at the end is very nearly as loud as the guitar. All in the space of recording maybe 15 seconds of guitar. The noise is also now constant.
The other ins are also getting a little tiny signal that they previously didn’t, despite their sources being off.
It all stopped only when I pulled the cables.
Can anyone tell me what happened?
