I lost the bet. Guess who folded first this year???? (NGD)
« on: January 28, 2009, 09:26:16 AM »
I shouldn't have been looking should I?  I've been watching out for a PRS McCarty with a rosewood neck for a few months now, and guess what popped up

It's been used, there's a few marks here and there, so it must sound OK.  And according to MartinW, PRS's need a bit of character  ;)

McCarty Rosewood from 2005, with birds.  £1599.  Cracking price.  All the others I've found have been £1900+ with moons.

Let the "I told you so"s begin!

I'm away for a few days, and what's the first thing I see when I get back?

It's from Coda Music in Stevenage.  I've been checking a lot of sites daily, and I think they added it late yesterday.  It was sold by 9:15am  ;)

it is a good price - you will have to let us know your thoughts on the rosewood neck tone in a band setting.

we all knew you would be first, no point fighting it!!

Ha ha!  Too true!

I'll let you know how it goes.  It's the final piece of my "tone quest" - do I like the sound (and feel) of a guitar with a rosewood neck?  Once I've tried that, and decided either way, I think I'll be done.

Which is actually quite scary for me...

Most of the stuff you say, I believe. This, I do not!

Ha ha!  Tis true though!  I'll have tried everything I'm interested in then, so there's nothing left to!

I should never say never though I guess, but I'm fairly confident I'll settle after this...

Well 'technically' I did beat you by a week or so with my 335 purchase but I'll let that slide as you have a reputation to uphold!  :P

Great looking guitar - would love one of those myself - nice guys at coda too

Matt

p.s. as for this being the end of your tonequest - no chance

I wouldn't bet on it, Matt  :)  My amp rig doesn't get any better, as the folks coming to the Manchester Meet will hear.  It suits me perfectly as I helped spec up the amp with Martin  ;)  Plus I have the Celestion Golds too, superb speakers, in a top spec cab.

As for humbucker guitars (my main type) I have a variety of the models I like in all the different configurations (Mira, Mira Maple Top, McCarty, McCarty Korina, McCarty Rosewood).  The "McRosie" was the final piece of the 'set', and I have no interest in the new Mira X or the McCarty Smokeburst.  Also, the Modern Eagle is just way too expensive for what is essentially a slightly flasher version of the McRosie.

I've got a great Tele, a P-90 guitar and 6 and 12 string acoustics.

So there you go - it may be the end!

It looks great, man :) I agree that a few bumps add character, too. A guitar's a waste if you're too afraid to play it because it's gorgeous and unmarred.

Had a Casino for a while, didn't like the chunky body.

Had a couple of Strats, sold the USA Fender and just kept my JV Squier - my first electric.  I like simple two pickup guitars, hence I prefer Teles.

Had loads of LP types, and I just can't get on with singlecuts.  I play with my thumb wrapped right over the neck (like Hendrix did) and over the 12th fret I'm stuffed.  I just can't play comfortably.

I've tried a fair old range of guitars and have never been really happy with any of them.  The PRS McCarty changed that as it fits me perfectly.  The Miras are not quite as comfortable to play for me, but I really like their different tonality, flexibility and incredible resonance (with the thinner body).

Indeed!  I've been caught out with that before.  I'm looking forward to checking it out when it arrives tomorrow...

I know what you mean - prs do make very comfortable guitars
