I have to say that anyone who cares to share their purchases with us be it a new Gibson R9 or a squier strat is equally welcome and just as interesting. Its REAL opinions from REAL people - I like them all!

I'll stop now as I'm drunk on a web forum on a friday night .......alone..........sniff

Some people obivously have plenty disposable income and buy loads of high end gear, and there's certainly a degree of showing off all their stuff, but so what? Obviously the majority like to eye up more gear, so I don;t see how it's a problem.

That's something i myself don't have much of, all my money goes on gear and i don't have money for anything else afterwards, this PRS i got, i've worked hard for that.... in the hope that i won't buy anything for a long time and have money to actually do things in life, haha!

I do feel though, that i should spend less time browsing these forums and more time playing, and i have been doing recently and I've improved quite a lot, these forums can be rather evil and give you GAS and that's something i want to avoid, so i might just check this forum once a day instead of the usual 5-10!

Hmm, I think I can follow the intention of the original poster. Sometimes I hang around in HugeRacksInc forum, and I get the feeling that people value others just related to the gear they own. It's a bit of a show-off over there, and thus - although there are high profile people over there - tends to be quite superficial and elitary.

In terms of economic crisis, while people are faced with losing their jobs and having to save to survive, we have to make sure guys with less disposable income don't feel excluded from a community like ours. I remember that the mood in here used to be different, there was more of a warm welcome to new members and also a bit more on-topic (pickup talk) than today.

But still, I find it really ok if people share their new acquisitions (I do quite a bit of that myself). As long as we still value the opinion "of the less equipped", this forum can remain its uniqueness and special flair.

I am happy that I can add my stupid comments to every seconds out post if I feel like :O)

I don't see any problem people sharing their new acquisitions with the forum.  Some guys may have saved up years for there new dream amp or guitar and have nobody to share their appreciation with.  If I said to my mate/missus/mum etc look at my new guitar theye'd be completely disinterested so why not share it with like minded mates on a forum? Whether it be just pride or showing off a bit it certainly doesn't bother me....

I sometimes find the forum a bit biased towards the younger metal / brootalz of which I have almost no interest but I happily post along side these guys and who knows might find I have something in common after all.

Forums are transient places, sometimes they go off a bit and then more people join / old members come back and things get back on track again.  In fact I'd say the planned Manchester meet is a really positive thing from the forum lately.....

It could be a lot better though if Roo just came out of the closet and admitted he loves Tele's :D

This is true... but i think i know why.

Most of the people who are on here now have been on here for years, we've gone through the process of talking about the pickups and i'd say the vast majority of us know the pickups inside and out and we're done talking about them unless we get a new set, so the conversation has had to move off into different angles and subjects.

i don't really mind that, but i like there to be variety too. then again i'm probably biased as i do play a bit of everything. can get annoying when you go into shops and they ask you what you play-  "bit of everything" doesn't seem to be the answer they want to hear, you get the feeling they think you don't know what you're talking about when you say that. but it's the truth! EDIT: just realised that "it's the truth" could be a bit ambiguous... best take that as a freudian slip, lol, i probably don't know what i'm talking about most of the time either...

I've been watching this thread with interest, wanting to post but not quite knowing what to say.

Yes, I do feel there's been some sort of vague change over the last couple of weeks... but I've only been here a year so I don't think I can really put a finger on it... I was actually putting it down to Christmas(!) - I've had less to say that seemed useful recently, and I guess others feel the same. But it doesn't worry me - it's bound to change over time. I suspect the forum "vibe" seems to change as we change in what we need from the forum ourselves... NEway, as long as I've got something to put in, and more importantly as long as I'm getting something out of it, I'm happily sticking around. And that hasn't changed.

I continue to read stuff that interests me, ignore stuff that doesn't, sometimes there's nothing new I want to read, so I have to read the stuff I ignored... and holy-sh1t!! I usually learn something...

This is a fine forum, best I've ever visited, friendliest, caring-sharing, etc... Sometimes I laugh out loud at what comes on here. I like looking at the guitars and amps - even the stuff that I don't find that attractive... I've even started listening to clips of types of music I have no understanding of at all, and maybe started understanding, perhaps...

And it's also the forum I've stayed on longest so far... and there's nothing happening to make me feel like it's an effort to participate, so I don't see me drifting off yet awhile either :D

My 2p:

Gear is too expensive to buy just for the hell of it. (unless you are loaded, in which case what the hell). We've aquired a lot of nice stuff over the last couple of years, but we appriciate everything we have (barring the Pod XT Pro, bit disappointed in that). Some people like to experiment, that kind of nature will always lead to a lot of aquisitions, I suspect Twinfan is of that ilk, and a few others on here I'm sure.

I like to see new stuff posted, people find all sorts of interesting things that I'd never have seen otherwise (doesn't help my GAS though).

I agree that it's interesting to see other people's new or upgraded gear - even though my own needs have been reduced to one guitar and one small amp.

I not only love looking at beautiful and interesting guitars / amps / gear , but also I can see and understand ( via these pages ) what 'floats the boat' of folks who play different styles than me.  At heart it's the same passion - the same attention to detail.  :)

Yep, 'tis true.  I'm always wondering if that 'thing' sounds or feels better to play.......

i don't really care that much about it changing (not that i've actually noticed much difference anyway  ), as andy says it's bound to happen. unless we go looking for all the people who've left, or don't post as much as they used to, and force them at gunpoint to come back...

forums do tend to be seasonal... other than this one i hang around the uk guitar builders forum (UKGB = http://simnettguitars.co.uk/forum ) ,  project guitar ( http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/ ) or the musical instrument makers forum ( http://mimf.com )

all very handy for people making guitars or wanting to discuss guitar construction

this is one of the only gear based forums i frequently (as in most days) post in or read

Has it changed?   ... i am not sure, like most people i joined for a little more info on a relatively obscure brand,  i stick around because i find it a freindly place where i can be myself

i no longer ask about pickups because i always get the best answers direct from tim, but i could ask anything else about my life here and know i would get genuine thoughtfull input, rather than the abuse  and flaming some other forums bring

i like gear threads because i like gear...it may serve to enhance my GAS for things i dont really need or would even be able to use but thats fine... if i had the disposable income or guitars to trade that some other members had you could bet i would be doing the same...as it is  i am just as happy to see someones cheap pimped squier as i am their new PRS ultimately artisticly packed 10+ topped modern golden eagley in teal sunrise thing

i was genuinely surprised to see Fixxer's 'i'm off' thread as i have rarely seen many negatives on this forum, and i think i check here enough that i would notice them even if the mods caught them quickly to delete

I think all the bad news in the papers and on the TV constantly and our current economic times have affected all of our moods, it has certainly affected mine and changed my buying habits, but in a good way as I now look for items that will most likely retain or grow in value instead of just seeing and trying just about anything. It does mean I'm ending up with more high end gear, but less of a it which is a big plus, more tone less tap dancing.

People are going to be more worried about loosing their jobs, paying their mortgage or rent and feeding themselves and the people that depend on them.

I guess I see changes here. I don't know if it is a bad thing, just natural progression. Since finding out about BKP I have them in three guitars and I am happy with the tone from all three. I will probably buy more as time goes by and funds allow, however, in the current economic climate I have refrained from posting pictures of new gear because I don't want those who are expriencing less fortune to feel any worse than they probably already do.  I mean who wants to read post like: I sold all my gear to keep the roof over my head and the computer goes next....all fades to black.

As the global economy improves I am sure the attendance on the forum will too.

P.S. I like seeing the gear; Squires to R9's and beyond.
