I haven't got that much compared to most here.

2 guitars only :-

Gordon Smith graduate (main band guitar)

Nashville power telecaster (church guitar & backup band guitar)

2 amps (although one is on ebay as I type).
The one I shall keep is a Selmer 100W PA I have modded into a 3 channel Marshall/SLO type thing.

2 cabs  - a Marshall 4x12 (my small rig), and I add a Laney 2x12 on top of that for band gigs.

When I've sold the other amp (also a modded Selmer 100W), I intend to buy a Digitech RP500 modeller, for silent home practice (and band backup).

This is something I was thinking about yesterday. I'm by no means a collector but I can easily see myself going down that path and things getting out of hand. At the moment I've got about 5 guitars Tokai LS1000 and a Greco Zemaitis GZ-1800 and the rest various low end Japanese copies from the early '80s. I've a couple of low wattage practice amps and a Martamp Roadstar 18 and my new Mongotone 410.

The point is that the LS1000 is my go to guitar - the neck is fantastic and its easily the most satisfying guitar to play that I own. The the low wattage amps bought for practice never get used - the martamp just sounds so much better, even at low volume with a pedal in front for distortion - better harmonics, better dynamics. Same with the mongotone cab. All just more fun and 'transparent' to play. Everything else gets to sit around gathering dust.

So I say to myself its time for a clear out - no more amps no, more guitars (maybe a couple more pedals as I've no reverb or wah). But thats it, no more being broke all the time for that "must have!" guitar. Ebay, get thee behind me! Keep what I use, get shot of the rest...

Then I see this: http://www.jamestrussart.com/Steeldeville/large/Dragon.JPG and I know I'm doomed and its just never going to happen!  :D

I'm glad you're still liking that Pearl, Tom  :)

Since getting the neck join sorted and a proper setup it's awesome :) The thicker and rounder neck is way comfier than the epiphones as well.

Two guitars, only really use my Gibson, but if a string breaks and I'm lazy...
And I am meaning to sell the other anyway.
I have two cabs which is probably a bit excessive, but it covers a few different aspects, 10s Vs 12 speakers, open Vs closed back. (they are all the same speaker essentially though  )
Also bought a 100w amp which means I could sell my 50w, but too lazy at the moment. If I hold on a year I think the price will be better :)

Own and in use:
JCM900 50W
Modded ProCo RAT
self-built boost
Lehle D.Loop
cr@p volume pedal
Dunlop wah
ADA MP-1
Alesis Quadraverb
Line6 Pod Pro (late night jamming/ fleshing out ideas on the computer)
Crate powerblock (poweramp for rack, although i'll get a valve poweramp soon-ish, so it'll be a backup poweramp)
behringer fcb1010
self build open backed 2x12
Gibby LP
Custom Ran
Charvel Model 4m
Self built fanned fret 7
self built 8 string
Takamine acoustic

Not in use, but being sold:
JCM900 100W dual reverb
1936 cab
ADA MP1 (was backup, but don't need it)
Jackson DX7
Morley ABY

The great gear cull of 2009 is getting rid of my unused bits so I can fulfill some GAS that i've got. Got a few more guitars that i'm building that are on the way, so that part of the collection will expand, but i don't really wanna sell any of the others (love the gibby, Ran was a custom, Charvel has such a good neck on it, fanned fret was a 'prototype' etc.) They each have their own function though (different tunings mainly) and different styles, so that's how i justify having a crowded room!

Ok as I started the thread ... last year I sold a fair few pieces and am thinking of selling more.

 I've got 6 electrics, 1 electroacoustic and 1 bass. Of these 3 have 2 x Humbuckers, 1 has 2 x P90's and 2 have H/S/S. So in reality I don't need all these either.

Ampwise I'm down to 1 good valve amp and I got one of the Crate power blocks as a gigging back up. Makes sense to me as it's portable and powerful enough, I can still use my pedals to get a decent sound. I got fed up with taking 2 fairly expensive amps out.. at first it was ok 'coz I run both into a stereo cab but it got to be a bit of a ball ache to be honest. It all sounded great, but one day for some reason I stood back and looked at all the gear and thought "what a tosser!". It's not like I'm that great a player.. we only do classic rock covers Lizzy,DC,Zep, Bad co etc etc... and it's a great laugh but it was all getting out of hand.

Guitar cabs. I had 3 - 4 x 12's (only ever used 1 at any given time) but just sold 1 to a mate, and I have a 4 x 10 which is great ... especially when space is more of an issue. ( I'm going to sell my vintage Orange 4 x 12... it will be listed here over the next week or 2). So then I'll have a 4 x 12 and a 4 x 10... more than enough!

My bass amp is only a Phil Jones briefcase. I do have a David Eden 2 x 10 cab which never gets used (this will be listed here soon too.

It just shows that even for people who aren't well off (like me), it amazes me how much gear we accumulate and then the frightening part.... total up all the cash you've spent ( Iknow that some of you ain't going to do that...Lol)!!

Twinfan and other guys in more than one band... you can't really get by with just 2 guitars and 1 amp... I knew that! :D

1989 Gibson Les Paul Standard (Crawlers)
1964 Gibson SG Standard
'61 Reissue SG (Riff Raffs)
Fender Tele 50th Anniv (Piledriver)
Caliber Tele (Boss)
Fender Squier Strat (1980's) (Apache)
Ibanez Edr470 (Crawler)
Vintage Les Paul Goldtop (BKP 91s)
Peavey 7 String

Cornford Hellcat Combo
Cornford Hurricane plus 1x12 Ext Cab
JCM 900 4101 100w combo plus 1912 Ext Cab
Fender 'Red Knob' Champ
Pod 2
MI Audio Black Box

The guitars I have used live recently - Les Paul Standard (Crawlers have split coils ), Tele - built like a tank, great range of sounds with the Piledriver and volume control, SG Reissue (very fast neck for me as I've got small fingers!) - all through the Hellcat Combo.

I like to play all the guitars at home but will probably sell a couple and also just keep the Cornfords. I could quite easily end up on the right hand side of Twinfan's 'spectrum' (been very close to buying a PRS and another Tele recently)  but like Steve realised that accummulating large amounts of gear does not guarantee any improvement in tone/playing ability.

Major point to add is this - if I had to strip down that much, I'd have to give up gigging with my current bands
I bet if you didn't have such a large collection you would still be able to play in both bands with just 2 guitars and one amp - after all there are 100's of guitarists (amateur and professional) doing just that

You can if you play the same stuff and have a similar tone, but mine are quite different!

Sorry, that's what I meant! :D

My own GAS started when I was In 2 bands about 5 years ago.... the classic rock stuff, and also a 60's rock band doing Smallfaces, Yardbirds etc... so Iwas looking for different sounds... that's when it all started :(

I like 6 speakers for two reasons.

1/  I get at least some sound coming at me near head level, which I really like. I can hear myself much better.

2/ It looks good !!

PRS Singlecut SE with Mules (been my go to guitar for the past year or so)
80s Yamaha SG1000 (great guitar but doesn't get used)
Ibanez RG550 (for when Im in a FR mood)
Mex Fender strat (for when Im at my gf's house)

Amps

Laney VH100R (main gigging amp when I used to gig)
Laney 4x12 cab with V30s and G12H30 annis in X pattern
Ceriatone 1987 (will probably be my main gigging amp if I get into a band again)
Laney Supergroup (not used)
Spare 4x12 (not used)
Blackstar HT5C (main home amp. It's all I ever play these days)

I'm having a bit of a re-think about my gear so it's probably gonna change quite a bit this year.
