My only experience with cricket is restricted to watching Shaun of the Dead and the sticky wicket oatmeal stout I'm making for St. Paddy's.

... I love it :-)

There are at least two other cricket fans on here, and I always find it an interesting topic as so many people are totally confused/bored by the greatest sport on earth :P

I remember playing Cricket at my old school back when I lived in England, and it was so much fun!  But since moving so much after that, I forgot how to play, and I don't know of any local cricket teams in America.

Haha, you may have a point ...

I am also not sure about the ashes, could be a scratchy seiries with both teams on the down slide at the moment. The recent mess over KP can't help (although a lot of that was made up by the press). I have it from a source at Worcestershire CCC that the main crux of the fallout was over central contracts and the ICL (no great surprise there), and who should bat at no.3. The selectors do seem to be persisting with Bell, who should frankly be much further down the order (He did very well at No. 6 a while back). KP wanted Vaughn back apparently ...

As a Mddsx fan its nice to see Shah getting a go, although not so good as it means our [Mddsx] batting order is now kaput with Strauss and Shah on England duty!

And on a sadder note, RIP Bill Frindall - TMS won't be the same without him keeping Blowers et al from making statistics up!

I used to really like going up to the nets and playing there.  Lets face it, cricket is only good to play if you're either batting, bowling or wicky.  Other than that it's just standing around wearing a wooly jumper in the summer  PDT_031
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

Definitely :-) that's why I took up bowling, gives you something to do in the field!
At least in the pavillion waiting to bat you can talk to people &c. ...

Edit: also, as I am half blind in one eye and have no depth perception, I am rubbish at batting  :P

^ yeah, i used to hate fielding. didn't help that i wasn't much good at it, but you'd stand for two hours and the ball wouldn't come near you, then when you finally nodded off, one would come at your head... :(

As to England winning the Ashes? I don't think so.  England don't have enough aggression collectively in the bowling department.  Watching our seam attack fail to make any inroads into the South African top order last summer at Lord's showed that they don't have the variety to force batsmen to make mistakes.  Oh, and we have a captain who can't play one-day cricket.  I have the nastiest suspicion that we're back to where we were just before Nassar Hussein and Duncan Fletcher took over, i.e. some talent but no real idea how to apply it and no consistency in selecting it.

yeah, pretty much.

i really think they should dump cook. i mean, he's shite. he take about 600 balls (slight exaggeration, but not by much) to get about 40, then when he tries to speed up because he's allegedly "in", he gets out. by this stage the entire england team has died of boredom (or they're under pressure because of time), which affects the rest of the innings. what's even more worrying is that he's apparently being groomed as a future captain. :?

I remember seeing him on some TV show (with that guitar, I think) jamming with Pat Cash (playing his mid-60s Melody Maker).

Very cool Feline! Is he as good at playing the Guitar as he is at Cricket?

And <sigh> Andy, not looking good is it. 202-5 ... A bit of a recovery from KP, but we are crawling ... I guess they had to be careful after losing a load up front. A bit of an odd team too ... Sidebottom back, and Broad who is almost an all-rounder but not quite good enough at either discipline ... he'll probably get a century and take a 5'for now I've said that!

I still live in the hope that Harmison will magically recover his '04-'05 form.
But I fear that is just wishful thinking ...

^ ^ ^ sweet :D (about mark butcher)

^ yeah, that's the problem. i'm still hoping simon jones comes back

nice to see cook's up to his old tricks... 4 runs off 20 balls (i think)...

pietersen too (out on 97 trying to get 100 by hitting a 6), but it's hard to complain when he's their best batsman by far...

Sorry guys, no love and not much vitriol, but I do find cricket very boring....

....nowhere near as boring, though, as American football.  I accidentally watched some of the "Super"( :| )Bowl last night when I happened to turn on BBC1 and saw Springsteen's half-time set.  God, cricket's dull but at least it's continuous.  They don't stop the clock for 5 minutes every time anything happens.  :x

well, i'm not actually a fan of ANY team game/sport, but i have usually a lot of fun playing soccer (well, i'm absolutely terrible anyway - all i'm quite good at is bearing on a running opponent hitting mostly his legs and torso but sometimes the ball too... i'm an assault defender...  :P)...
cricket and american football (and baseball, for that) have the common problem (at least in my opinion, but i don't know enough cricket to be sure) (all i know about it is that i will never understand how it works...) to have A LOT of weird rules... you can play soccer almost everywhere, you just need a ball! that's why it's so fun to play and (sometimes) fun to watch...
Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...
