Celestion raise prices
« on: February 25, 2009, 03:29:01 PM »
I just got a news letter from Watford Valves and it says Celestion are raising prices for their speakers. So for example, A vintage 30 cost's £59.99 will now cost £75.99. Pretty big price hike. Apparently the price increase will affect the Heritage, Gold and Blue series speakers the most.

Bummer.

I have some Celestions I'm gonna sell on Ebay; I was gonna shift 'em at rock bottom pricing just to make room. Looks like they should move pretty fast now. :)

I noticed this a few weeks ago. I've been considering trying out some new speakers, but Celestion have whacked the prices up so much I'm probably going to go with Eminence.

The prices shifted a couple of months or so ago.  Watford Valves must be at the bottom of their current stock levels and about to order more.

It's a big hike isn't it?  :(

not sure what to do now, I was thinking of replacing the V30's in my Orange 2x12 with a G12-65 and a G12H but kind of went off the idea as I am fed up chucking money at my rig, mmmm.... :?

they only adjusted the prices to the dollar x british pounds balance
I stopped buying from USA for a while cause the british pound kept its value (compared to brazilian real), but now everyone adjusted their prices for the damn US dollar
that's quite unfair

In that case, I hope you plan on never making another purchase again. Prices go up; it's the way of the world.

It's probably a UK issue. Same with Marshall. The prices in UK are SO MUCH lower than anywhere else. With internet and easy price comparison, this kind of anti free trade retail strategy is not working anymore, as continental clients order from UK (I did for Celestions and Marshalls in the past).

I guess they adjust the UK prices a bit up and the continental prices stay the same.

Still a big difference, e.g. a Gold costs 175 GBP at Hotrox (=196 EUR) but in TAD it costs: 349 EUR. That is still almost 80% more!!

that's interesting. house prices here have been falling at a rather alarming rate (because of the bubble). I don't mind inflationary rises- big jumps, though, are not so good. and a lot of these rises are quite possibly related to currency fluctuations- i can wait until things settle down again.

and houses are not the only things where prices are falling, in the current crisis- partly caused, might i add, by too much speculation on, yep, too rapidly rising prices.

:)

There is pretty much universal acceptance (in the financial world at least) that the RPI index will be negative when it's figures are next declared (on 24th March if you really want to know). The last time this happened was way back, over 70 years ago. I'm no expert on this but if RPI is negative doesn't it mean your money should go further for some things?

Anyway - back on topic. My GAS hasn't yet hit the levels of wanting new speakers so this Celestion price hike, whilst high, won't have any impact on me!
