what gibson should do, is make modern versions of their guitars. models with floyds, ebony boards, AANJs, 24 frets. then they'd actually appeal to the modern crowd.

The eighties is modern?
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

i'm not so sure... after all 80s have passed leaving a trail of diehard shredders who still buy pink fluorescent guitars with black pickguards and play them at shoulder height... ;)
classic oriented models are coming back in full glory among the new generations of players, and i'm not speaking of vintage fans... 10 years ago it was quite hard to find a fixed bridge metal oriented guitar, now floyds (this is a simple observation and has got nothing to do with my floyd idiosincracy... :P) are becoming almost a rarity...
Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...

too many? ;)

Yeah, I was kidding with my last post but I think superstrats with Floyds, skinny necks, ebony boards etc are just as "retro" as '52 reissue Teles or whatever.  It's just that they're retro for a more recent period in history!

They've definitely been making a comeback in recent years, but for a while in the '90s/early '00s they were deeply unfashionable.

Shreddng became unfashionable, but shredders guitars just got used for metal anyway. Darker finishes, not as flamboyant looking but same guitars
