Krank Distortus Maximus - first impressions
« on: March 09, 2009, 05:39:03 PM »
Well, the pedal arrived today.

First impressions are that it is very well built, has a very low noise floor, has a very interactive and versatile EQ section

and ....... completely blows away every other highish gain pedal I've played so far, which includes, the HT Dual, HT Dist, Mesa V-Twin, CrunchBox, SPF Red Threat, and a load of others I've played in shops and forgotten their names.

It is just so articulate and tight, yet you can still get both mid-scooped and more vintage mid-heavy tones. THe EQ really is stupidly versatile.  Sounds equally nice doing tight rhythm riffs and soloing. Loves being boosted by a TS too.
I'm really loving it at the moment. COmparing it with the Tube Zone, i currently have on med-high gain duty on my board at the moment, the Krank is several leagues above it in clarity and overall tone.
just a "heads up" to everybody really. Well worth trying out !!

Congrats, that sounds great!

I think HighGain is where most pedals fail and I have yet to hear a good one that does that thing where harmonics jump out at you without hurting your ears or mushing up chord definition. Actually most heads fail as well :O)

Ok, now let's wait another 3-4 weeks before you give your proper judgement, shall we? ;)

I completely agree with you !

I'll live with this a couple of weeks (will be gigging it next saturday) and see if I still feel the same.

We've got reputations to uphold!  I buy guitars, you buy amps and pedals!

(Although obviously you're modding amps now.....)

That's very true! Also,my pedals sound so different when i change the valves in my amp or when i use another amp or another guitar. It can be awful  with one guitar and perfect (almost.. :?,it's never perfect!) with another...Btw,the Krank Dis.Max.,is it expensive?
