randall modular heads

has everyone got any experience with the randall RM100 head or similar products? i tried it and was blown away by the blackface and plexi module... sadly the two lead modules i tried (recto and ultra, i think) didn't impress me much... has anyone got some other high gain module?

I tried once the RM100 at the European importer in Netherlands, they also let me try all modules available, incl. the custom George Lynch ones.

I likes the BF Deluxe and the Plexi, but the higher gain ones didn't do it for me. I found the head a bit stiff and 2-dimensional sounding. Maybe the power tubes were wrong or the bias wasn't properly set, but I think that the Egnater version would do better thingsin terms of depth and quality of tone.

The Egnater modules have two sounds per module, and the sounds are great
I have some of the Randall Modules which sound ok as well

i only got to try one with the 3 modules it was loaded with- deluxe, plexi and recto, i think. pretty much had the same impression you had, the deluxe and plexi modules were great, the recto not so much. :)

I have the Egnater Mod 50 head, i think it's amazing!

The Egnater stuff is built better than the Randall stuff though and does sound better, but of course, comes at the higher price. My main module is the 'Erect' (dual rec) module. Which i asked for some of the fizzy mids to be taken out of. It has a brilliant high gain sound, better than my old 2 channel dual rec actually!

There are quite a few people that mod the modules too. To make them sound/look better/different.

The only thing is, is that you;re going to end up owning all the modules, like everybody does, haha! £££

I have 6 Egnater Modules and 3 Randall ones now, and still want more,
Sound blooming great
And often what one person doesn't like is another players favourite module

I bought Adam's EG5 (80s hair metal sound - think RATT, Lynch etc) which he wasnt so keen on and I love to death

i can't find anywhere the egnater in italy... is it much more expensive than the randall?

The Mod 50 head is $2000 and comes with 2 modules.

The M4 preamp comes with 4 modules and is think is $2100, but then you need a power amp too.

I want an EG3/4 :D

i found the randall 100W head with 3 modules (i know, they've just got one sound each) for more or less 800 €... i think i'll avoid the better built egnater!

never loved them, i liked very much the first albums when i was a kid, though... but i went directly from maiden to death metal, so metallica always sounded to me like an unnecessary middle-earth...

Ah, skipped the thrash middle man

I still like thrash. Rather a bit. I dont think of it as a middle man. It walks in tandem with the DM. Yeah, DMs all musicall more sophisticated, but sometimes you just cant beat some headbanging, balls to the wall high-octane thrash.
