The amp sounded like a small Marshall combo.

Tele's have plenty of sustain  as long as they got the three saddle bridge and a string gauge of .10 or more.

I was in particular responding to the comment that this tone "Kills". There's nothing "killing" about it!!!

 I didn't read it as that Roo - I read it straight: "it shows Roo that a Tele can kill too" - no mention of tone there.

I'd assumed that you'd respond along the lines of "yeah fine, if you insert it sideways into an appropriate orifice, granted, it might do a fair bit of damage, yeah... but the clip doesn't actually show that"

BUT!! and this is a big but... I finally start to think that Fernando might be right - I'd assumed he was joking about you coming round to the tele-side...

Evidence:
1. The OP put your required "tele" warning in the thread title - but you're still in here reading it, even though you might see images that "hurt your eyes" :o
2. The biggest shock - you obviously watched the clip :o, knowing that there would be moving pics and sounds of some geek playing a tele-type instrument...

It's alright, Roo, we're here to help you, we all knew you'd come round to it in the end - we can be very supportive...

Andy is so right... You can't be sure if Roo will see a thread if you don't put a tele on the title, but if you do, he WILL enter... so, you're not convincing me anymore, Roo... wanna buy my tele? I sell it just for you :D

Tele's have plenty of sustain  as long as they got the three saddle bridge and a string gauge of .10 or more.

Or a modern six-saddle bridge with a thicker baseplate.  I know that's sacrilegious and won't give a "true" twangy Tele tone, but it's a great sound in its own right.

The biggest tone-killers seem to be the vintage-style bridges with six saddles.

Truth be known; I never much cared for Tele's before owning one. Tele's have a sound that is unique, and fits so many genres of music that it is better to have one and not need one, than to need one and not have one.

I must admit I was intrigued to find out what people consider to be good Tele tone, and with everyone raving about the OP's posted clip, I figured it's a reasonable place to find out! I do go into pretty much all the threads, though; like all of you, I'm (just a little bit) addicted to these forums ;)

The bulb guy's heavy Tele sound was definitely getting closer to "kills", though. I would struggle with single coils to control the mad amounts of noise and feedback at the gain levels I use - this comment is not tele-specific, you understand - so I still struggle to see any viable use for a single-coiled guitar in serious brootalz music. I used to play a cheap esquire strat in my first band many moons ago playing heavy stuff - but it was all solid state, cheap guitars, no mids noise back then. In my tone quest over the last few years, I've found so much better ways to achieve the wall-of-noise effect without unwanted 'noise' creeping in! :)

Roo - that's a well thoguht out argument for why you don't like teles/single coils. Kind of beats the constant baiting of your dislike and the normal responses! Long may it continue!

Don't ****ing count on it!

:D

(PS I'm a 1-guitar guy anyway, there's absolutely *nothing* I want at all to replace my WezV, and I honestly can't see me buying another guitar ever. My previous guitar was second hand, the one before that was my first ever guitar, bought by my parents. Even if I were ever to buy another guitar, there are SO many more I would buy before even thinking about a single-coil loaded guitar of any description ;))
