Fixed bridges with fine tuners
« on: March 20, 2009, 02:50:22 PM »
That isnt a schaller 456

Something that will work with a non-angled neck.

Suggestions?

Not a bad suggestion at all!

But its not black! (And doesnt come in it). And its hideous.

Other than that, its pretty cool! I could see me getting on with that in all funcitonal regards. But still, not black, and hideous.

I'm surprised it's Chrome only - Kahler certainly used to manufacture it in Black because the Jackson Mustaine KV1 & Friedman KE1 used to have them.  Perhaps trawl ebay because I'm certain they do exist.

Only other thing I can think of is a recessed Tune-o-matic with fine-tuning tailpiece (not sure if you can recess that though...)

Yeah, it looks like you can get the 7330(is that a budget version?) in black here:

http://www.wammiworld.com/u7330.html

Or the 3300 in black here:

http://www.banzaieffects.com/Kahler-3300-B-pr-21111.html

I can't do anything about it being "hideous", though. :P

7330 is korean. Probably aint such a bad thing, but anywho

Expanded search criteria - best fix bridge for non-angled neck?

Bob pointed me toward ABM and cos I like schaller, the 3Ds. Its a bit hard to find a photo that doesnt make them look like tele bridges, but once you do - very nice solid looking chunk of bridge with good adjustment capability

http://www.thomann.de/gb/schaller_1477_3d6_steg_black.htm

However, I dont like little allen screws for action - not so comy for palm muting.

Any other contenders?

the 2000 or 3000 are milled in the USA custom shop,  the 7000's are cast i believe and are the standard factory model - still USA made. 4000's are factory made in china

http://www.wammiworld.com/Faq's.html

The first of 4 numbers in the family hierarchy represent the location of manufacture and manner of distribution. A "2" or "3" means it is hand milled through the USA custom shop. Sold only through Kahler International Inc., it is stamped Kahler "Made in USA". It is known as the "Professional" version. A "4" means it was factory made in China under exact SAE specs for Kahler and is primarily a lower price point trem for a guitar manufacturer to use. Stamped the "X-Trem", they are not sold thru retailers. A "7" means it was factory made in the USA and is the retail version most players will see. It is stamped Kahler "USA Hybrid"... Hybrid because it incorporates a locking screw to lock it into a fixed bridge. It's a full trem and a fixed bridge in one.

Thanks Wez. Korean was just best guess. Probably would have been better not to state it as fact.

Any issue with the cast models, quality wise?

If you're bot bothered about fine-tuners anymore, how about Hipshot:

Or good old Gotoh:

http://www.allparts.uk.com/gotoh-nontremolo-bridge-steel-saddles-p-2418.html?p=product

They both have allen screws, but both have through-body stringing, better than the Schaller 3D, IMO.

That fine tuner -hardtail design is great, makes you wonder why more guitars don't have them.

i have used the 7300 hybrid trem and am quite happy with it.  i still havnt tried a milled one to compare it to but its a damn fine bridge... i imagine there will be a slight tonal change with the milled one

check here for comparisons

Would these units be low enough to work if the distance between the body and the strings was just the fingerboard?  Like with a neck through guitar where the neck was completely flush with the body, the only height coming from the fingerboard...
