Thats good to hear :) However Ive just done a bit of reading up on the specs for the Fender Vintage '62 Custom and realised it has a 7.25" radius. I hate narrow radius (another reason why I want another Gibson style).

The only way I'm going to get what I want is a Warmoth at this rate which is basically custom :lol:

List the spec you want, I'm sure there is a Fender out there for you. I'm a fan of rht bound 62 customs, as well as the thinlines and the deluxes. There's a tele for almost everyone! Except Roo of course, but he's a bawbag.

Not sure the exacts but its something like:

-9.5" (at least) radius - would probably prefer 12 or something a bit flatter though
-C or V shaped neck - not too thin
-either black with white binding or that nice creamy white with black binding
-esquire would be cool, but normal S-S pickup config would be fine.
-ability to bring the rawk (so needs good pickups/price needs to leave leeway for a set of bkps!) humbucker (bridge at least) maybe considered.
-Not sure what bridge type/saddle config I'd want. Whatever gives you the best intonation without sacrificing the tone I guess.
-might also like a p90 one with regular hardtail bridge. Like that black one twinfan posted in his thread :)

my tele's are cheaper than my SG's tom, and i still have that mahogany i was saving for you or the other korina blank like the one in TF's thread.  esquires are particularly quick and easy to build


tell you what would look nice.  solid mahogany esquire with cream binding and maple neck - all oil finished!

to UKers warmoth prices are close to custom prices anway, give or take a bit depending on the exchange rate and options

Hmm if you want binding and a decent neck profile (9.5") you're looking at an American Deluxe tele.

If you want humbuckers, but no binding you're options are a 72 Deluxe or the John 5 sig

However! For P90s look into the Jim Adkins (Jimmy eat world guitarist) model.

Or do what I done- buy a mexican standard, take it home, and route it out with a hand drill. Not pretty, but one Holydiver later and you have a beast of an instrument.

This seems your best bet though. For a while I had just the bridge humbucker in my tele, it sounded HUGE. Stuck the stock neck pickup in for some variation, but the single humbucker 'esquire' is a total beast.

without question i would fit a vintage-hot or hot tele bridge to a tele for tom's description. anything from a brown sugar up is pure RAWK tone. fendery, p90ish, and as dirty as hell.

edit: the added advantage is it fits lookwise too ;)

Just realised theres fender japan as well though. I remember sound control had a white one with black binding a while ago and it looked awesome.

Forgot about the Jim Root tele as well. Its not the most traditional but it does look very cool.

There's a pic in the first post (she's changed name since then - she's Iris now).

I think it's a 7.25 radius, but it feels quite flat in relation to my other 7.25s (a 52 reissue with maple board, and my 62 reissue strat with rosewood board). After playing my Tokai Love Rock for an hour or two, I can pick this tele up and run with it, the other fenders require some time to get used to them...

I got mine in Denmark St (Rose Morris, I think) and I think it was around the £550 mark - it was certainly there-or-there-abouts for the usual price of these at the time.

I'm really happy with it - but I strongly suspect that the Wez plan is the best bet in this case...

Another update to this thread, to keep it going  ;)

Ian came round to my place today and we played a bunch of guitars and amps, as you might expect.  Ian brought his Top Bound Esquire round with him.

Me like.

Yep, it's that very pickup.

It's really, really good!  You cannot go by the specs alone.  It's still bring and zingy when you back some volume off, and it's like a chunky Tele pickup when wound up.  You do lose a little on the cleans as it's not as transparent, but there are coil split wires on it so you could add a four-way switch........
