good noise gate

i'm looking for a good rack mounted noise gate... something not too obtrusive in terms of tone and dynamics. and of course true bypass. any idea?

Pedal decimator does its job superbly, though, I'd just get that.

BBE Sonic Maximiser have a noise reduction circuit on their rack mounted units.

I love the decimator prorackG.
2 channel, one for before the amp, one for the effects loop, and it takes your input signal and preserves that in Channel 2 so it's easier to dial out amp noise, 50/60Hz hum and any noise from other pedals.
A bit pricey, but I don't think I came across anything else that comes even remotely close to this when I was searching for noise reduction systems!

BTW Noise Gates are something a little different, and you probably want noise reduction instead (ie filters out the cr@p but leaves your signal alone).

i just bought a decimator pedal (well, i ordered it from the USA, of course there's no way to get one of those in this shitety country)... i didn't think there was such a difference in price between pedal and rack!

You wont be dissapointed with the pedal. I dont really see how the rack can be better - the pedal doesnt change your sound in the least, it opens and closes spectacularly quickly, and generally all round does its job perfectly. Good call. I swear by mine - good enough at its job that I've been out of the noise gate market since I got it (about 4 years ago)

i asked for rack because i don't want to have too many pedals around... but i'll keep it inside my flight case, now i have just one 1U effect in a 3U case! if i'll set it for a light reduction i'll be able to use it even for solos, i think...

Yes you can do that. At min reduction, it does nothing. At max, it doesnt even let a full signal through.

I notice that 'Highly Strung' are still doing the pedals and rack mount range online in the U.K.  I bought my  'basic' Decimator pedal from them a year or so back.  :)

FWIW, the pedal is single channel, and therefore can't differentiate between signal and noise in the effects loop. I find the rack unit unfeasibly good at its job, and - given the exceptional quality of this - I expect the pedal to be just as good (just not covering the 2 channels, which I particularly wanted to help clean up noise in the effects loop as well as in front of the amp!). You'll find it superb, I'm sure! :)

I use a Decimator pedal and it is great. The Pro Rack G is even better.
