Hi to everybody! Any suggestion for bridge PU in my custom?
« on: March 22, 2009, 07:03:16 PM »
Hi, i've just registered! I have listen to several samples and i've liked so much BKP!
The question is: i have a custom made with this specs:

- Mahoghany body
- Thick flamed maple top
- Neck + fretboard are flamed maple
- Bolt On neck
- String thru

I play in drop C with heavy gauges (10-60) and my genres are:

- New Wave Of American Metalcore (such as KSE, As i lay dying, All That Remains, Park way Drive ecc ecc)
- Swedish melodic death (such as InFlames, Soilwork, Scar Symmetry, Dark Tranquillity)

My amp is a 5150 with kt88 and a Framus Cobra on a 4x12 w/ v30s.

I don't want anything which can remember SD Invader or Dimarzio X2n....unmanageble!

Definition and an aggressive punch (but not the punch with enormous basses) is what i'm looking for!

What do you say?

I'd probably say Nailbombs, but Cold Sweats could be worth a look, maybe.

Probably cold sweat. Its got the defintion and punch, and the punch isnt from crushing low end, its the low mids

On youtube i only find people using the warpig with the 5150...and the sound is good!
Can i put, considering the sound,  Miracle Man between Warpig and Cold Sweat ?

Errmm....not really.

Its in between in output, but tonally they're all different.

The CS has a punchy, chunky low mid, even rest of the mids and quite a bit of high end. Its a bright pickup, maybe the brightest BK. This was in an SG, and a painkiller in an ibanez RG1550 through the same setup was thicker, bassier, much more high mids and similar top end, but less airy.

The pig is thicker than either, and has more bass, about the same low mids as the CS, but is more compressed, has much more grind in the mids and a smoother high, rounder high end.

I like the MM through my 5150-II, although from what you've said, the Cold Sweat might just be more the ticket, as MDV pointed out.
Incidentally, are 10-60 really considered heavy gauge strings???

I think they are, yeah.

I told my mums guitarist that I play 12-62 in drop b (at the time - semitone down now and string guages are a bit up in the air again - I want a bit more tension in the A# and G; I'll find the right thing soon enough) and he looked at me like I was insane and told me he uses 8-38

I forgot that 8-38 existed! 9s in E feel like elastic bands to me

I'm on 14-70 at the minute, and they feel just about right for bends!

I had to uptune one of my guitars to G yesterday for a song that usually has a capo (which are the single thing that I hate most in the entire world of guitar and ascociated gear), I just used 10s, it felt fine.

Its not really the bends for me - its really fast fingering patterns.

Jebus, man. And that's on a long scale, too, isn't it? What tuning do you use? I use 9-46 in Eb standard, lol.

Yeah 28" on the bass, 26.5" on the treble and it's in A-E-A-D-F#-B (ie B-standard with drop A)
:)
