As per the title, 13Gauge are playing in a charity gig on the 19th April at the Barfly in Camden.
Come on down to see some sterling music, all sourced from within the Institute of Cancer Research!
Oh, and you also get to help a great cause, in addition to seeing my lorvely WezV guitar in action - what more could you ask for!?

More info about the ICR is here.
Barfly Link - buy tickets online or on the door.

Doors open at 7pm. Tickets cost £8. Depending on how much money is made at the bar, more or less of this will go to the Institute's Jump100 campaign (all of the remainder will be covering costs, the bands are all playing FoC).

If you're in/around oxford on the 9th April instead (this Thursday!), then I've set up another thread telling you about that gig :) Cheers!

There's quite a bit of PR coming out regarding this gig in the next week or so, here's one of the first (and no, that picture is not of 13G ;))

BUMP

This gig is tonight. If anyone fancies coming along to this, please feel free! It's all for The Institute of Cancer Research, and promises to be a good gig!

If you see this here and decide to come along, do come and introduce yourself to me (I'm the guitarist of 13Gauge - the one with 'the guitar'), while I'm not drinking (driving the guys down), I may be inclined to buy you a drink for showing up ;)

Tickets are £8 and can be bought on the door. Doors open at 7pm, first band on at 8pm. Venue is the Barfly on Chalk Farm Road just north of Camden Town.

Cheers!

Thanks 38th!

The gig was outstanding! Pretty good showing, although we didn't make anywhere near the £2000 required at the bar to get room hire free (bah!), but the crowd was really decent, and all the bands put on bloody good sets!!

First up was Wasted Angels: they're a Manchester-based RAWK band, slight punk influences, but no-messing, straight up heavy rock, played superbly well, with great stage presence. These guys had a tough job opening, but they really set the tone for the night - tight as you like, really professional outfit, and lots of smiles all round. Cracking stuff!

Next up Ikonoclass (or, according to the posters, Iconic Last, lol!). We'll put the telecasters to one side (!), but Ikonoclass put on a mixture of covers and original material. The audience was dancing along (singing along to Hard to Handle, too!), and they played - again - a really tight set. Great stuff!

Then 13Gauge. Well, I'm not in a position to say impartially how our set went, but from our point of view it was excellent! Lots of really nice comments afterwards from people, and lots of people moshing along (I really wasn't expecting this!!! In the words of our vocalist during the set: "one of these bands is not like the others..." (sung)). We also got the PA mix on CD after the gig and listened to it in the van on the way back up to Oxford, and I we were really chuffed with the sound! Possibly the finest moment, however, came again from our vocalist with: "We have come to punch cancer in the face!". :D

Last up: Dogstate. Their first gig. WOW. Talk about finishing off an already blistering night, Dogstate put up some metal/rock with fantastic tones, very tight and clear playing from all involved, and fantastic guitar solos from Rich (who very much reminds me of Rich Ward from Stuck Mojo in his playing). The drummer was hitting the kit nice and hard (which makes us happy!), and I for one couldn't tell any missed notes in the whole set. And they really engaged the audience, too!

I would recommend checking out these bands - especially if you get the chance to see them live.

A really good night had by all (at least, all that I spoke to, hehe). If you're very lucky, I might get some clips of the brutal Vociferator in action (I was SO happy with the tone from this baby last night!! Scorching!).

Thanks also for all your wishes of support on here.

Not sure if you guys can see this, but there is a vid from last night on facebook now:

http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=92207454809

And here's an MP3 of what was coming out of the PA (so drums v quiet and mix is a little strange):
(Mic was only on one of the speakers in my 4x12 (an EVM12L black label), not on a G12K100 in the same cab or the Celestion 15" bass or Wharfedale 8" bass speakers in the other 4-speaker cab))

roo,

do you play a baritone guitar through a what, 800watt 4x12? and another cab with 15" and 8" speakers?

that sounds like a heavy rig

:D YUP :)

Hired a Ford Tourneo to carry drum kit, guitar rig, bass rig and the band down. It only just fit :D
The 4x12 is indeed 800W, and the other cab is 200W (4 x 100W handling speakers). Peavey chucks out '120W' clean. It kind of hits you in the bollocks with a lump hammer. Cracking stuff :)
