I'd say less gain too; your sound is a lot thicker than his, and less 'saggy'. Nice job imitating the playing!

I really don't know how one would go about emulating those kind of tones at bedroom levels, but it definitely sounds sweet!

Cheers mate - not sure how I can do less gain though as the clean was only on 3! Maybe the camera mic got a bit distorted.

Thanks for the comment about imitating the playing, nice to hear although I think I have some way to go. Frusciante is my favourite guitar player, has been for a long, long time.
I think I hate being indecisive.

On the contrary. I'd say you need a bit more gain Ian. When JF hits those low Eb's there's definately some break up going on. It's not all fret buzz.  That extra gain will give you extra "interest", harmonics and sustain in the tone.
What you do definately need, as has been pointed out, is a much brighter sound.

Cheers hamfist - after comparing the vids side by side I must say that I now prefer the sound I have over the original (I've reduced the bass but not yet re-recorded it). That's not meant to sound arrogant or big headed at all but I'm aware it could come across that way  :o
